You mean you folks are buying long tuber headers, forced induction, and cat-backs to get RWHP gains? Heck, I'm putting 'em on just for the stone killer sound
btw, I was only at 371 rwhp with similar mods after tuning. I do have the stock cats though.
My car is doing 372RWHP with only CAI and LS1 edit.
Perhaps a Cobra would be the way to go for you - as they are much cheaper and easier to get huge gains. If you are looking for a dyno queen, then that'd be your car IMO. They are not bad cars by any means (unless gas mileage is important )
If you want a great all around car, give the Z some seat time...
I knew this would generate an amount of varied responses. Thanks for all your input. This is the fourth Z I have had and do enjoy driving them. I was just expecting more. The Cobra's are also enjoyable to drive but in a different way.
Perhaps I will dump it and let someone else enjoy it. Someone will get an awesome Millenium Yellow 04 with substantial upgrades for a steal. Just part of the business I am in.
Fantastic, sounds like by the tone of your posts that you do not know what you bought nor do you understand these vehicles very well. Anyone who would get rid of a Z06 for a 2003 Cobra is off their rocker.
I don't have a good explanation without seeing the car why the HP would be quite that low. I dyno'd my car @ 1100 miles stock and saw 357-358 RWHP. I dyno'd again at 4700 miles and the results were the same 356-357. I pulled the lid off the airbox and dyno'd it at ~6500 miles and saw 372. I haven't dyno'd the car in over a year. Anyhow, I do know having seen two different cars with similar modifications that you should be @ 390-400 RWHP with the modifications listed. I have driven both cars that had mods, and you could tell a difference over a stock car (not just based on sound). My only suggestion would be to have the tune checked.
Also, and this is only a sugggestion. The Z06 has an unscreened MAF sensor. Some air intake systems don't seem to work as well with it as others. This is often not seen on regular Corvettes as the MAF are screened. If you end up taking it to a dyno again, try doing the Zip tie mod on the stock airbox (or borrow another air intake) to see if your aftermarket airbox is causing you any issues. If it does you might consider another air intake.
As for the Mustang Cobra, they are cool cars no doubt. I found that my car was a good from a dig against a 455-461RWHP Cobra. (8 races. 4 from a dig I won by 2 lengths, 4 from a roll I lost by 1-2 lengths)... The Cobra feels really fast. The Z06 doesn't feel as fast as the power delivery is smoother and you don't feel the torque as much. But the car is pretty quick.
Maybe there is some break-in needed, but the tune is the most important part of the equation. I would say a good tuner can make a 15-20hp difference. How much time did they spend? You should be able to tell by the # of dyno pulls. With just a Blackwing I was running 363rwhp. With SLP LT's (which probably aren't as strong as the LG's) & new cats I was at 389rwhp. It's pretty rare to see 400+ but there are guys with LG's running in the 390's. Is Phoenix performance a experienced with these tunes?
They specialize in Corvette's. I am going to call them and see what's what.
Thanks J Rod. Good HONEST feedback is not often heard. I am not sure what the Hurricane Carbon Fiber intake is all about but I will look further into it. I agree that the vette's perf. is much smoother and stock against stock, the Z is the hands down winner. I do need to find out why such a small increase in the HP from Dyno run 1 to Dyno run 7. I will try to post the sheet.
sOMETHING IS seriouslyWRONG IN MY UN PROFESSIONAL OPINION. The o4s are strong cars. I dynoed at 385rwhp with just a trap and staright pipe, no tuning. This is on 2 different dynojet 248c's corrected. There is no reason your car should be that low. By the way, I've beaten two modded cobras. One had several bolt ons, the other I dont know. Plus, my car can handle and brake. Keep the Z and get the problem diagnosed. Those numbers look way off to me. My car is in the shop now getting lg long tubes, mezierre water pump, UD pulley, and an L.A.P.D tune. If I'm not over 410 rwhp I will be very dissapointed.
i agree, alittle more time in and the car should break in and wake up some. but i understand, i would expect alittle more out of it, as u did. also, was the dyno a Mustang Dyno? as they generally provide lower numbers.

Re: VERY DISSAPPOINTED! (Deanpug)
Why are you modifying and dynoing a car with less than 600 miles? I would say that either your car is not broken in, you got a lemon, or your aftermarket parts suck. A typical stock 02+ Z06 puts down about 355 RWHP SAE.
If all you are after is max dyno RWHP than you should certainly move back to the Cobra.
I have to believe that this unit should have dyno'd stock damn near what it did with the few bolt on's that I did. It is scheduled for the auction for Friday and if it does what I need, it's gone.
Now if some of you look at J Rod's post, you will see that a Cobra CAN take a Z, but that's not my point!
