Had Column Lock Problem tonite
I thought the column lock problem wasn't on the ZO6 models, but I guess they are. I started my car tonite and the DIC read steering column lock, wait 10 seconds and pull out the key. The steering wheel was actually locked while the engine was running! I wated about 3 minutes and the car was fine.
Has anyone experienced this problem?

I've ordered my CLB. I'm getting the impression that Corvettes have some quality issues and a certain number of glitches built in. I noticed a very small pool of fluid under my diff yesterday and thought "Seen a thread about that too".
Here's me always poking fun at TVR's for being unreliable so best not leave myself wide open.

Actually there is a fix for the column lock. Recall is underway, more info at:
http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/pr...ls/results.cfm
According to Chevy, the recall is being done in "stages" starting with the '97 cars and working up to the '04 cars eventually. No idea how long that will take or what we're supposed to do if we have the problem in the interim (although to be fair, we've owned 3 manual transmission C5s and have never had the column lock problem.)

From what I heard the recall on the M6 cars is a PCM reprogram that shuts off the fuel pump if the column locks. That will not help much if you are cruising down the highway at 60 MPH.
The A4 cars get the column lock totally disabled because the shifter lock can still be used for security. No shifter lock on the M6 so the column lock remains for security reasons.

I would rather bypass the system so I won't be stranded or have to visit the dealer and have someone damage the car while trying to replace the Cl with another faulty part.
I paid $55 for the CLB.. well worth it just for the peace of mind.

If you haven't installed a column lock by-pass it's only a metter of time before you get stranded. Spend the $55 and install a by-pass.
I hate reading these threads when the problem is well known, GM has NO FIX and the solution is cheap and easy.
Do yourself a favor, install a by-pass.
