OIL FILTER: UPF44 or PF 46
What's the difference in the two? The one I ordered from Fichtner is a UPF 44. I want to get one locally today so I can change my oil now. The local Chevy dealer says there are no more 44's and it's been changed to PF46. He also shows NO UPF. So, If I buy one now, it will be a PF46. Is that OK?
Thanks,
Jeff

You'll be ok. If I recall from previous posts, the UPF 44 is the "better" filter but isn't manufactured anymore. The PF 46 is more of a generic one. I went with the K&N filter. Got to be better than the PF46. Most auto parts stores carry them. Just my .02 ....

With either one you'll be fine. I run Mobil1 filters with no trouble.

Use either one - they both work fine.

According to the AC Delco web page the two oil filters listed for the C5 are the PF-46 and the UPF-44. Sounds like the PF-44's are no more. I've seen the PF-46's in local parts stores. I've only found the UPF-44's thru Forum sponsors...

I use the pf46.
I just had a thought....Anyone know what filter is used on the C6? Maybe thats why they switched?

UPF44 Filters at Ken Fichtner (See 3rd item down.)
The Ultragard UPF44 filters are also available from gmpartsdirect.com under GM PART # 25329389. I think Gene@FredBeans, a CF supporting vendor, may carry them too.
Hope this helps.

Well, I just changed my oil for the first time, at 700 miles. Bought the pf46 from the local chevy dealer. By the way, the original filter on my car was a pf44, not a upf44. So, I'm full of new oil and a new filter. Think it's time to play?
