C5 relative abundance
If my arithmetic is correct, 248,715 C5s were built.
My best guess for total automobiles in the US is 150,000,000.
That would mean one C5 for every 600 cars in the US.
Does anybody have a reference to an accurate total US auto registration figures?
They aren't rare, but compared to total production and registration, a quarter of a million cars isn't very many.
Cheers!

Ummm, that may be more information than I need to know. Good luck though, maybe someone with no life will chime in.

For GM that's very low production numbers. That's why you don't see them rushing to fix column lock and gas guage problems.

There are several million new cars sold in the US every year. With only 35K Corvettes or so per year, they are quite rare.
With Corvettes, you notice everyone you see and ignore the thousands upon thousands of ricers and SUVs on the road.

Wow. Very interesting.
But at the end of the day, I think the only one that counts is the one you own.

Your arithmetic seems fine, though I have no clue as to the accuaracy of the numbers. I think the flaw in your thinking is the assumption that every C5 made has remained in the U.S. (or for that matter, that every one ever made still exists).

Oh, I am aware of that, and the fact that some have been junked, destroyed in collisions, etc. So the number is obviously somewhat "lower" than one in six hundred.
I posted it to see if anybody knew where to get a total MV registration for the US. My flailing around on Google didn't find much, perhaps I never asked the right question.
I just did the exercise for fun.
Cheers!

I go to car shows almost every weekend and Corvettes outnumber other cars by a ratio of over 10:1

as far as production percentage . . . a fraction of 1% . . . a FRACTION. I am uncertain as to the goal here . . . probably a higher % of Corvettes ever made are still in existence . . . but that is speculation on my part.

And don't forget that many Vettes just sit in a garage and almost never come out. That lowers the percentage of the ones that the public sees.

Isn't mass production wonderful?
I wouldn't be able to afford one if they made fewer.

There were 137,633,467 registered passenger cars in 2001, so your 150m figure is probably really close for 2004.
Of your quarter of a million C5s produced, a small number (1k per year?) went overseas.
I agree that 1 out of every 600 cars on the road isn't very many!

Yes, I think about 1k went to Europe each year, at least that was the average around the late 90s/early 2000s. I have no idea how many made it to Asia per year....

A couple of more numbers
Porsche (many of whose owners seem to look with disdain upon the Corvette) produces around 50,000 cars per year.
Ferrari, on the other hand, says it will produce no more than 4,000 per year.
Didn't look up Lamborghini, but I am pretty sure their output is much smaller than Ferrari.
Cheers!

Yea, when you look at all the cars made, the Corvette is very special.
