Default Lowering Instructions

I know there are good instructions in the tech tips but it talks about cutting bushings. I don't want to do that. Just want to go a little lower. I saw some instructions once that said to tighten/losen the bolts until __________ number of threads are showing. Can anyone point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Your are refering to the rear...Leave about three threads showing. Front the front, bottom the bolts out a then back it out just a little bit.

Here are is a sites about the front...

and the front and rear...

Just remember once you lower it, you'll say "maybe just a little lower" and you'll be putting longer bolts in the back and cutting your front bushings!

So, here is a link to help you cut the front bushing!

when you take apart the rear you will see the bushing just cut a little at a time and let the car settle in to see if you have your desired height. the front is a whole different story you dont have to take the front end apart, all you have to do is get in there with a hack saw blade and use a little elbow grease. i cut both my fronts in 30 min,i almost took apart the front end.

I wouldn't recommend cutting the bushings on the rear, that's what they make the 8" bolts for. I'm with Matt69. I lowered my Z last weekend. Didn't cut the bushings or use the 8" bolts I had. Just wanted to see what it looked like first. Didn't take very long to see that it needed about one more inch. Looks like that's what I'll be doing tomorrow.

Hi Rob's 73 -

I just did this the other night to my 2002 Z.

The other posts here will lead you to pictures and show you the bolts in question.

I did mine on my lift - I used a 10mm ratcheting box-end for the fronts, and an 18mm socket on the bottom and a big crescent wrench on the top nut on the rears.

It took me 15 minutes tops to lower it to the stock stops (two thread remaining visible on the rear).

I would spray some wd40 on the front bolt- let it run into the rubbery part of the leaf spring - it seemed to make it much easier to turn the 10mm front (counter clockwise to lower car).

I found the amount of lowering to be "just right" for me.

best regards -

Biggest thing to remember? (which I missed in the c5forum instructions): be sure to jack up under each front wishbone to take the pressure off the bolt before you try turning it. I almost stripped the head off the left one before I figured it out. Otherwise, it's the simplest, cheapest mod you'll do to your V ette (other than cutting down your stock shifter).
