Replacement tire sensors
The tire sensors in my 1998 C5 appear to be at the end of their life cycle (Battery). Does anyone know where I can get replacements with a fresh battery. I really don't want to send out the current sensors just want replacements.

No feedback that I've read but I remember the posts when he was getting started doing this and really seems to care about what he's doing. It might be worth a shot. If you end up going the dealer route or the used route don't forget that sensors for the newer model years won't work with our cars....97,98 (not sure if 99 is included as well). There was a redesign and the newer sensors won't talk to our receivers.

Problem is, if you get yours rebuilt ... you have to leave the tires off the wheels for the week or two that it takes to send them off, get the work done, and get them back. Or, you could take them out, get the tire remounted, then unmount and remount the sensors when the refurbished ones came back.
It's expensive to get a runflat unmounted, remounted, and balanced and if you have to do it one extra time, you could have more than paid for new sensors. Either that or do without your car for a couple of weeks.

I think I have to agree on this one. I know I'd feel better with new. It will be a long time before the long term reliability can be determined on a rebuilt one and I don't want to be the test pilot.The GM part number for these is 10438853. GMpartsdirect.com prices them as follows:
GM list: $135.53 ea
Parts direct price: $77.25 each. (not including nut or oring.) I'd give Fichtners a call and see what they offer. Might just be better off with new. You'll also need a #10268438 O-Ring seal (package of 5 for around $2.01 and #10268439 Nut (package of 5 for around $2.01 list.

If you buy from a dealer, give Bob at Fichtner Chevy or Gene at Fred Beans a call. They seem to have decent prices for the parts.

Thanks for all the assistance. I am pretty much decided to go new. So far Fitchners is @ $101 each and Fred Beans @ $97 each. I am awaiting GM Direct. Rob thank you for your kind offer to rebuild. I love this Corvette spirit
If I were to go with tires that are not run flat can I just not use the sensors?
Will the elimination of the sensors cause a constant display on the DIC - Check Tire monitor system?
Will this cause other problems?

fyi, The sensors don't care whether your tires or runflat or not - they will continue to work - I am running Z06 wheels & rubber on my coupe and the sensors work fine.

Is there any way to tell how "Old" the "New" tire sensors are, when bought? Date stamp or whatever, so that one will actually know how old the new batteries maybe. You might buy one that's been on the shelf for several years.
