Hello all, my name is Brandon and I'm hoping to own my first vette soon.
I was wondering a few things first off. I'm looking to get a 1999 C5.
1. Are there any known problems with this year?
2. Are there any 20 year olds with perfect driving records that can give me an estimate on what my yearly insurates rates would be?
3. Is this car able to be used as a daily driver?
4. for the 1999 I'm looking for around 40,000 miles for about $20,000 ---- does that seem accurate?
Hi Brandon - searching can be a lot of fun - take your time and do your homework and before you know it - you'll learn all about permigrin...answers below...

There are what I would call small problems like rocking seats, column lock system problems, AC Delco batteries that could leak, flaky gas gauges, that sort of stuff. Do some reading in this forum and you will most likely see posts on almost all of the common problems within 5 pages
2. Are there any 20 year olds with perfect driving records that can give me an estimate on what my yearly insurates rates would be? I can't help here
3. Is this car able to be used as a daily driver? Without a doubt, but as with all vehicles with a lot of torque, it is not at its best in snow or ice but there are a lot of people that use them as DDs

If you can get the VIN and create a new post with the title of Born On Date, one of the forum members will pull the vehicles buld specs and warranty claim history - if you're really lucky you could also ask for (and receive) a Carfax type report on it too from someone else - what a forum!
Looks like ptdrummer54 has pretty well covered most of your questions. As for the insurance though, your best bet would be to get price quotes from those companies doing business in your state. Insurance laws differ by state and so will premiums. Too, with all the variable, it would be difficult at best to estimate your premiums based on what others here say they are paying.
I'm 20 and I pay almost 2k for insurance with USAA, but my record isn't perfect, but mostly due to the crotch rocket. <no accidents> I drive a 99 i just rolled over 101,000 miles i've had the car for almost 3 years...No real year specific problems with the 99 that i'm aware of... Enjoy! I paid 25k in 2001 for my car

Welcome to the forum. That's not a bad price for a '99 with 40K. Problems that I had with mine were differential seal leaks and the column lock. But that was about it. And yes, the car will work just fine for a daily driver. Good luck with finding the car you want.
Welcome to the forum Brandon and good luck with the search for your perfect car. You won't do any worse with a '99 then really any other year. ptdrummer covered in general some of the issues that you may encounter but if you do your research on a particular vehicle you should be able to avoid getting bit. Members on this forum can provide you with vehicle build stats, carfax information and maintenance history and recall work. I've seen members volunteer to go out and look at a particular car that is out of state or just to help the new buyer feel more comfortable. You don't list where you are so this makes the questions on a daily driver and cost goals difficult to answer. It is a better daily driver in Arizona than it is in New Hampshire as an example. You didn't mention if you were looking for a Coupe, Convertible or a Fixed roof coupe. Corvette pricing is very regional. Here in the northeast a coupe on a dealer lot will retail for around $25,000 fully optioned and about $22,000 from a private party. A convertible will be more. So the best I can tell you is that you "might" find a 99 in your price range. You'll do better from a private seller on price. If you really only want to spend arond 20k you might consider a 97 or 98 and invest the extra money into an extended warranty. Just a thought.
Brandon, I paid about 20K for a 1999 hardtop with 38K on it very recently. You just have to look hard for the deal, you'll find it. I had a 1992 coupe prior to this, and I can say it's nice to NOT drive around with my toolbox anymore No issues or probs so far.
Well, I called the insurance company this morning on a quote for a 1999 vette coupe. Hopefully it's something I can afford. In the meantime, I'll be waiting for the call
Well, I had thing's to do today and when I got back... DUN DUN DUN... No call. Hmmmmmm. I wonder if this is a sign. Anyway, I guess I'll call again in the morning.
Brandon, Take some advice from someone three times your age. Before you buy any car, call your insurance agent to find out what your cost is going to be. What other 20 year olds pay is completely irrelevent. They have different insurance companies/agents and live in different locations.
Welcome Brandon. This is a great forum - extremely helpful and friendly folks.
When you do get your Vette remember 2 things.
1> Wave at all other Vettes
and
2> Save up a LOT of money after you buy it because you WILL be modifying it sooner than you think. As Csexton said - "Beware of MOD Fever!!"
I have the waiving thing down pact, I learned that with my camaro, and it's gonna be soo much sweeter when I'm in my vette.

I will take that advice, My friend got his C5 when he was 15, and paid 5 grand a year. Hopefully I will be able to find the same agent.
I can't speak for the C6 but my C5 is almost the perfect car! I feel one with the car. It always goes where I want it to be. The power under my foot feels real good too!
