Default Front License Plate in Texas?

I got pulled over this morning by a Texas State Trooper and he wrote me a ticket for no front license. In case you are wondering they are $100 bucks! I'm in the wrong on this so I accept it. My question is, any suggestions on where to put the front license without making the front totally hideous. Anyone have pics of how they mounted their front license plates?

Usually they just give a warning unless they have stopped you before. My neighbor just put his front plate on after getting stopped about 9 times (all warnings).

As ugly as mine looks with a front plate , I just pay the fine and figure it's money spent on a mod.

I've never been pulled over for this, and I wasn't speeding so I thought he might give me a warning, no dice though. I wonder if putting the plate in the inside up against the windsheild is legal in Texas?

Others may disagree, but I don't mind mine where the factory intended it. I have a painted license plate surround from Kewl and it really does make the front plate bearable.

I REFUSE to put my front plate on! Dish out all the tickets DPS wants -- No way am I bastardizing the front bumper! I'll stick it on the windshield if I have to!

aggie03.. Where were you when you got nailed? I can't think of a vette anywhere in Dallas I've seen with a front plate. Must have been one PO'd trouper.

I don't worry on the tollway, but 190 troubles me...

I'm at Dallas/Plano line.

The law is very loose, just that a plate must be on the front, nothing about where or how to be mounted.

In fact here is the wording of the law:

Unless otherwise prescribed by law, each vehicle registered under this subchapter must display two license plates, one at the front and one at the rear of the vehicle.

43 TAC 43 § 17.22 (c)(2)

diyguy you hit it on the head! I got pulled over on 190 between Coit and Preston. I also live in the Plano/Dallas area. Have you noticed how there are a ton of troopers on 190 now?

upon further thinking, I'd shadow that cop, with video cam running, then watch how many other vettes he either pulls over or lets slide. All you need is to get him NOT pulling over one that doesn't comply.

Take THAT to court and ask 'why is that you stop one but not all sire?' Hells Bells, need to hook up and throw some bait (mine without a front plate)

I have been pulled over twice by the DPS for no plate on the front. Each time it was a warning. I have had the car for little over two months.

I just bought the bracket to mount the plate today and thought I would try it. However, I have never seen a Vette with a front plate either and I may opt to go back to the Cover. It would certainly look better than it does with a plate.

I live in Allen, TX.

I was on 190 today around 2PM first east from the tollway to 75 (He was also stopped eastbound just before Coit), then retuned 1/2 hour later and he was still facing east, but further down, almost to Alma - stopped w/ no customers.

My first pass was about 74 MPH and thought for sure I was nailed. - must have had the gun facing the other way. WHEW

Soon - it will pass. This fellow will go on to bigger and better things. Don't put the plate on.

190 is the Texas equivalent of the autobahn but with all the troopers it takes everything I've got to drive the speed limit. But getting a ticket for this when I'm going 63 in a 60 and in the far right lane drawing no attention....that drives me nuts!

Ghostrider2004, gig'em back at ya. What did you think of the game today? Damn that was a good game.

I have my front plate on, but the cover is velcroed on. If I ever get pulled over I tell them I jsut got back from a show and forgot to take it off. Worked so far...

That's sneaky, and I like it.

I think I'm going to put the plate on and put the cover back on when I'm not in high trooper areas, but when I'm on 190 or going on long trips I'll take the cover off to reveal the license. Problem solved, good call scottydog!

I live in Rowlett and spend a lot of time in Rockwall. I have asked both Rockwall City and Rockwall county LEO's what their take on it was. They say to me 'It is the law', however no front plate to them is usually just an excuse to pull someone over to find out what else might be going on. I have no front plate on neither my truck nor my Corvette and have only been stopped once on I30, for speeding, and was warned. I'm amazed that you guys got stopped on 190, I've never even seen a LEO up there.

Scottydog
You got any photos of how you did that?

Not that I am going to do it - but I'm not a rolling bank either. Once these guys get an eyeball on you, they don't forget. ///******////

I've been looked at a few times but never pulled over for no plate. I travel I-30 everyday into downtown. Thought about putting it on, just can't bring myself to do it.
