and chrome?
On the speed channel the other night Jay Leno was showing his "tank" car and was asked if the front end was chrome and he said no, he preferred the look of nickel plating. He said chrome was too bright.
My question is what's the difference, which is more expensive and would it work on wheels?
Thanks
I'm not an expert but I believe that the nickel plating is one of the steps of chrome plating. When they use the term "triple plated chrome", one step is some chemical that I cant remember, then another step is the nickel plating, then the third and final step is the chrome.
In theory, if you were going to send something off to have it triple plated then I would think that you could just have them skip the final chrome step and leave it with the nickel finish.
Like I said, I'm not an expert, I just know that nickel is one of the steps to the process so it doesnt seem like it would be a big deal. Unfortunately, I have no idea how it would hold up if you skipped the chrome plating.
Most of what you see is Chrome plated. It is very shiny. nichol plating is a step towards chrome plating. It's not as bright. It's very good, but not what you are used to seeing. If offered.... take it...
ZOOOM
It's kinda like dull chrome. I used to buy ni plated exhaust pipes for my motocross bikes. That's about the only thing I can think of that's ni plated.....
