I've been looking for a used Z06 and have
noticed that even with the $6K discounts
some dealers are giving the market for
used Z06's is still between $43K and $46K.
It seems that the used cars should be going
for less, am I missing something?

You can ASK anything you want for a car, you may not actually get it.

Steve,

I just bought a new Z06 from Maxie Price in Atlanta. They were great! I recommend them if you are looking for a new one. I think their sale ends today so you need to act fast!

I was looking for a used one too and couldn't find one in decent shape for less than 45K.

The big discounts on the new ones won't last long and then the prices will be back up near MSRP. Used ones with low miles will still command around $44K, maybe more.

I will give you the name of a guy in Houston at Charlie Thomas if you are interested. When I dropped of my deposit a month ago today they still had an 01 red one. I know that they will discount, but I don't know how much.
Let me know.

Several factors are contributing to the Z06 Market...

1. Dealer arrogance from 120 Days ago has caused the end-of-year build out to stack up. A local dealer is running a 4k off all remaining Z06s ad today. When I tried to buy one from them in February using my GM Supplier Price, they wouldn't hear of it. In fact they kept babbling something about 5k over MSRP as I was walking out the door. I went out-of-state and got a decent deal on an MN6/Z51 Coupe.

2. The announcement of the 405 hp car has people waiting. Not everyone knows this difference, as many are fickle and just want to be seen in the car anyway.

3. The economy that grew beyond anyone's wildest dreams has corrected. People are a little shaken from the joy ride they thought would never end. I knew many people in their late 20's who were planning on retiring at 35-40! If I had told someone in 1991 that I was going to retire at age 30-35 they would have collapsed in hysterics.

I'm also a believer in the used market rebounding to the 42-44 k area after the last of the 01s are gone.

Closer has it right. FYI, dealers are offering around $38,000 on trade now, so factor that in your bid on a used one.

I totally agree with this. As soon as all the new 2001's are sold, the resale on them will go back up as dealers won't be offering large discounts on 2002 Z06's until spring of 2002.

I don't really think they will rebound, and will continue to fall. In 01' they were more sought after, a certain number of Vette people just had to have one. I'm already seeing discounts on 02' z06s that were unheard of last year. Educated used car buyers will also know that if they buy a 01 there is a chance of it being and oil burner.
