Yes, its fast, but the Vette is just as fast plus it has style, class, and some exclusivity. When is the last time you saw a little kid drooling over a mustang?

Was exactly what I was thinking... I had same choice a few years ago. Ending up with the vette and have never regretted my decision...

Go for the Vette. I test drove both and was unimpressed with the Cobra. It didn't feel that fast for 390hp, same cheap interior as the rest of the Mustangs, but the seats were very nice. Also, the Cobra supercharger whine drove me nuts. My Vette just feels better to drive and I want to hear exhaust not a vacuum cleaner under the hood.

Maybe the fact that I didn't really like the '02 Mustang GT I had at the time has something to do with my decision.

I rent a convertible mustang every year when I'm down in beautiful Venice "Florida". Nice car and fun but you can't compare it to a Corvette, it is a very simple car that has nowhere near the technology that the vette has. Having said that, you should buy what makes you happy. Thats what life is all about ...

I was also very concerned about the coins (and yes there are alot to drop on this car) when I got my first vette, a 01 Vert. I was almost shaking when I wrote the check out.... but the sakes soon passed when I got in the car to drive it home... and the smiles never seemed to end after that. After that vette was stolen, I to looked into the 03-04 Cobra's. One time on a test drive, I was at a stoplight... and about 3 mustangs GT's and another Cobra came into sight. At that point I was already kind of disappointed with it... comfy seats... but I was really lackluster on the interior, and the handeling. Then some kid stuck his head out the window of his car... and asks me if it was a real cobra. At that point I knew that this wasn't the car for me. I missed the style, feel, and heck... even the smell of the vette. About two weeks after that my wife bought me my current vette for our anniversary. And from that day on... the smile still comes to my face every time I start the engine. I still chuckle every time that I pull up to that same stoplight and see about 3 or 4 mustangs pull up next me.

In reply to the comment earlier about punk high school kids not having vettes...in my graduating class in '02, there were 3 kids with C5 corvettes, and hell, even 1 kid with a '96 911TT. Granted, that is a small number, but just making a point that rich kids often get what they want, no matter what car it is.

Back to the discussion though. I love mustangs, and have owned 4 (all fox-body) (own 2 right now) since I was 16. However, I must say that I was shocked to find out how many mustang owners are pure a-holes. I can't even start up one of my 5.0s without some other mustang driving by and revving or trying to race. I have been test driving a few vettes, trying to find "the" one I want, and I have already had other vette owners wave, and give thumbs up as I pass. It just seems to me that the "corvette crowd" is more mature than the "mustang crowd."

....just my 2cents. sorry that was sooo long.

That extra 500 pounds of weight is like having 3 extra passengers in the car. It is hard to make that up.

Of course the answers here are biased toward the Vette, but what does that tell you? We love our cars and want others to see what we have. I waited over 20 years to get my Vette and it's worth every penny. Do you want to settle for the Mustang because it's cheaper, or do you want to enjoy life and get the car you really want?

Buy both of them and then after one month sell the one that you drive the least.
My bet is that the Cobra will go bye-bye.

Regards.

Comparing a vette to a mustang is like apples to oranges...The mustang is not a world class car and doesn't handle well either. The vette is the only way to go!!!!!

The Cobra is indeed a fast car - in a straight line. But the C5 will give you a much more balanced package. And, it can hold its own in the performance category. My thought - get the C5.

I love women but Mustangs are for high school girls and young wanna-be thug guys. I should know, I'm 22, on my second Vette, and know what people my age and younger drive. I have actually even read statistics that women prefer the Mustang over the Camaro because they can get in and out of it easier. Is that what you want in your car? Horsepower mods or not, the Corvette is a far superior vehicle in regards to engineering and design.

If you don't like wasting your cash then don't buy the Cobra. I've had both (see sig) and love them both, but they cannot and should not be compared head to head. The Corvette is in a completely different class than the Mustang and 25 years from now you will still have your Corvette, but the Mustang most likely won't last that long. Everyone and their brother automatically jumps to the hp and torque numbers to compare these cars, but the refinement of the Corvette in suspension technology, interior quality, fit and finish and on and on, puts it in another league altogether.

It's a no brainer. You will spend a bit more now, but it will payoff bigtime in the future. Whatever money you put in the Mustang you can kiss goodbye, but depending on what Vette you purchase, you may even come out ahead in the long run.
