Recommended First Mods?
Just after the first of the year I'll be joining the C5 brotherhood, picking up my Quicksilver '01 Z51 six-speed for the trip from Chicago to the relative warmth of Fort Worth.
As a C5 noobie, I'm looking for advice on initial mods. The car has less than 9000 miles on the clock so it's all original. My plan begins with the shifter, the intake and the catbacks.
Probably in that order. The car is going to be a GT machine mostly lots of highway miles across Texas. Not looking for a track star or a show car.
Any recommendations for brands, vendors or alternatives to those above?
The best performance modification you can make for the money is a 4.10:1 differential gear set. With your 0.50:1 sixth gear you will only be turning 2,150 rpms at 80 mph.
Take a look at the attached chart:
You will be amazed at the difference. It gives you 20% more torque at the rear wheels, which is like adding 70 hp at the crank

I'm going to take my time and go slow but this is a good place to start.
I know my first money will go for a shifter. I had a short throw Hurst in my C4 and it made the car a ball to drive. The C5's I've driven have a rowing oar for a shifter so that'll be the first mod.

What are the better shifters for the C5?
One of my first mods for the C5 has a Hurst and a smaller **** (though ANYTHING would be smaller than the MONSTROUS stock one)... Love the Hurst... Then I did the Borla 2-tip Stingers... KILLER!!

Good luck with your decision.
He says in his post that MOST of the miles will be highway miles across Texas. I'd say the 4.10's would be about the worst thing he could do to that car.
JMO, but I think many would agree. Especially will all he says in his post.
