Just got a Garmin 2610, love it. For the time being, I'm going to use the beanbag "mount" until I come up with a way to install it in a bit more elegant way.
(Ok, I know it's never gonna be elegant, but you know what I mean. )
If you have some ideas or, better yet, if you've already installed a GPS, please post here...y'know, brackets (custom or off-the-shelf), routing power, mounting a remote antenna, etc.
I use the Garmin Street Pilot III. This is the unit that the 2610 replaced. I used the beanbag mount on the dash but found that it restricted my view of the right front part of the nose of the car. I then moved it to the part of the dash on the passenger side and "nested" the unit in the grab handle. This worked great for me, gave me back the visibility and stayed put. The problem was it restricted my wife's view out the windshield. I have ended up with a solution that I love. I mounted the unit in the glove box and attached an external antenna. I can then just pop open the the glove for use and close it up when I don't need it. The open glove box also does not interfere with my wife's leg room. As an aside, once you get the route programmed you can close the glove box and just use the spoken directions. I ran the antenna out the back of the glove and tucked it in the right side of the dash. I then ran the power cord out the left side of the glove and tuck it in along the side of the console and up to the lighter.
*EDIT I forgot to mention that this arrangement still leaves my garmin portable. I can disconnect the antenna and transfer the unit to another vehicle in about 1 minute.

Very creative, talon90 -- thanks. I'm hoping to have the unit within arm's reach, so that I can use the touch-screen occasionally. (Yeah, the StreetPilot 2610 has an infrared remote control, but... )
