Thanks for all the comments. When I saw that ad I thought it was pretty cool too. My daughter will take it from me when I'm done with it I'm sure. She'll keep it in the family. As for the wheels. Mr Black, I appreciate your comment also. I grew up chrome this and that also. But I do still like it. So I am leaning towards rechroming right now. Nothing will happen until fall though.
Now for the great stuff. Had 2 relatives stop by after 5 PM and helped me install the new hood. Only took about 15 minutes. It's not completely done, but I only have a couple minor tweaks to adjust tomorrow morning and it will be done. It fit great right out of the gate. Gaps are really good too. I left the rear strikers off so I wouldn't have to keep pulling the latch release. Those are what I need to play with in the morning. The latches need to be adjusted a smidge forward. I need to adjust the height pads a little too. Ya know, messing with this thing brings back memories of adjusting the flaps on an airplane. 😆 Just not as tight tolerances to deal with and no inspectors to deal with. But that's a good thing. I'm having fun for sure.
For the wheels it looks like it is missing some kind of gloss clear…on a car which is very glossy. In the pictures wheels are missing light reflection and shine.
Chrome is not my taste, even on your car.
The car looks great Mark. The new hood came out fantastic and looks like a perfect fit and perfect paint match.
As to the wheels, honestly I miss the bling. Not many C5s look better with bling, but the Grape does. Perhaps go polished vs. chrome which provide enough bling without going over the top. They can be a pain to keep up, but they do look great.
Throwing these out there as an idea... I have brushed with a high-gloss clear now, but if I ever change (again) I like this example with a polished lip.
The MCM hood really looks amazing. Best looking, fitting hood for the C5. Should have been an option.
I also love the way the underside of your hood turned out. Painter did a great job.
Wow! Grape is definitely looking better than ever!. I wish I had an MCM hood. Those pics in the sun are fantastic. Hopefully, you get a chance to enjoy Grape a bit before your wife's surgery.
Not enough room where that rear bumper cover is. I'm just going to leave it up above the garage in the room up there. It's safe and out of the way of any harm that I may impose upon it.
When I put it back away for the winter, I'm definitely going to look into the chrome thing again. Today I took my Spekter Werks rear bumper to a body shop in my home town I was born and raised in. It had a crack on the passenger side where the curve is that butts up to the fender. The guy that owns the shop painted my very first car, 1967 LeMans, in the body shop classes he was taking at the tech school he was attending. His boy owns the shop now but he still hangs around there a lot. They've had the same shop since around 1980 I think. Great guy too so I'll see how he does. Don't know why I never thought to use him from the very beginning when I moved back here. I told him no real hurry as it will be a spare, or whenever I feel like changing up the look thing. I also went and got the passenger side hood latch adjusted so it latches like it should when I shut it now too.
I dig the connection. I always enjoy making friends and contacts with the old timers in the area. The stories. The resources. Especially the experience and common sense which abounds. Not for nothing but if they have survived so long then they tend to have good character and product delivery.
