Can this be used on a C5? I am getting my transmission rebuilt next week, so maybe I can have them install this? Would it help me in any way?

Yes a lot of C5 owners have added a C6 shifter, not sure how much of a difference it makes but, I'm sure there is a lot of info in the archives.
