Typically NO a dead battery won't prevent starting after a new battery install or a full recharge
However the anti theft system on these cars after many years may false trigger a theft senario and then i1t will crank and not stsrt or start running only for like 3 seconds---
1st ti reset your theft and ECM dis connect the battery over night so the ECM will completly delete all memory----This won't delete your tune but will make it learn the fuel trims all over again and often will reset the thft system-----ALSO if you have a spare key try using it to start as these keys wear out and they have a theft resistance "pill" in the key's base---andwith age sometimes they won't read right

You checked for spark during cranking ??...if you have spark spray some Brakekleen into a vacuum line..,if it tries to start or starts you have a fuel delivery issue !!
