Guide and tuner pro
I have a fairly stock 98 C5. It has aftermarket exhaust and cold air intake and that’s it for the engine. It also has real ZR1 stagard wheels 18” front 19” rear. I was leaning towards finding a ls3 but if I could find the right guy to help guide and help tune would be awsome and then I could just stick with the ls1 and go from there. Would love to build to about 500 hp naturally if possable. The simpler the build the better. I also plan on building the tranny and changing the diff to a 343 or maybe 373. Any buddy out there have an interest?todd

To hit 500 RWHP on the LS1, you'll need all the bolt ons, pretty large cam, aftermarket intake, injectors, and tuning.
Or just add a supercharger.
If your an automatic, it will be a little harder to hit that number.

500 N/A crank HP would be difficult to do on an LS1--it would require a huge cam and better flowing heads But most of all you would need MORE compression--than the stock Comp ratio--Meaning you would need to run race fuel all the time---I have tuned N/A LS1 stock bored engines with all the goodies but using pump gas 91 or 93 and the best numbers I have seen is only about 465-470 crank HP
500 is difficult because 98 MAF table is limited if you are going to use the stock CL/OL tuning
You would have to run either an OLSD tune or a SD tune on a 98 when approaching 500 crank HP and that would take special tuning and an experienced shop
PS a 98 C5 MAF table ends at 11250 HZ (about 475 crank HP)
But a newer C5 MAF table like a 2004 the MAF table ends at 12000 HZ which is about 500-525 crank HP using the stock OL/CL tune
Now a 2008 C6 MAF table ends at 15000 HZ which is capable of approx 700 crank HP plus using the stock OL/CL tune
On an early C5 you would need either an OLSD tune or a speed density tune to approach 500 Crank HP
To me if it is a DD type car it is not worth the effort to do special tuning-as with special OLSD or SD tuning there is no compensation for driving in different altitudes or air densities and to achieve MAX HP u would have to re tune your car at any location or ambient temp changes
-If you want a race car buy a race car----
