My parts (LT headers and 3.42 gears) are in at my performance center and I am waiting for a custom program from "Superchips" for the gear scaling and performance tune. (I know, I know, I should have used LS1 Edit but I have my reasons- no flames please!)
Question on shift points. I have specified the tuner to set the WOT Shift Points for "Maximum Performance". What does this mean? On a stock A4 C5 are WOT shifts based upon speed and/or RPM? Since my engine will be stock except for headers and intake, I have specified that the Rev Limiter remain stock.
Today I put it in "3" and floor it off the line with shifts shifts coming at about 5700 rpm. It seems my trans is almost a "Powerglide" as I travel most of the 1/4 mile in second gear with the 2-3 shift coming just before the finish line in the 1/4 mile.
With a gear change from 2.73 to 3.42 and the "maximum performance" shift points what will be different with the new set-up? Will I see the shifts come sooner? I assume that the gear scaling program will prevent hitting the Rev Limiter on the 1-2 shift.
At WOT shift point are based on exceeding the programmed speed for the shift and then meeting the RPM specificied. I leave the speeds alone if they are correct for your gear and set the RPM 200 to 250 below the redline or you desired shift point. Jeff
Thanks for the info. Do you know where I could obtain the "stock" speed and rpm shift points? I want to compare this to what the re-program values are.
after my rear axle ratio upgerade, I placed my A4 into forst and ran it up to redline... noting the MPH. And did the same in second; again noting the MPH at redline.
I then set my WOT shift points for each gear at 2mph lower than what I had noted.
