Well people that will be putting in either the LS2 or the FAST arent going to be running such a lame combo as the one in the test!!! Unported heads, hotcam (who uses the hotcam anyways?) 2.5 mid pipes, etc.
These intakes shine on H/C and big cube setups, not stockers! What a waste of time.
I would disagree that it was a waste of time. There are by far and away many more bolt-on to slightly modified cars than they are radical setups.
Tuning is a BIG help with Part Throttle drivability and idle quality. Once your Wide Open Throttle, through the MAF, it's just Air/Fuel.
From the report it looks like the LS2 Intake provides too much volume, at low flow, for a 346 with a low lift cam.
I agree!! I lost HP & Torque when installing a 90/90 combo and that was with all the tuning you can muster by The Vette Doctors. Put the LS6 intake and stock TB back on and gained back 5 RWHP & 30 Lbs RWTQ!!! Even the A/F ratio lines looked superimposed on one another. Just goes to show you that all the air in the world won't do you any good if you can't utilize it in your particular setup.
Here is a link to a couple of intake tests done on an LS2 engine. One is an LS6 intake with a stock 78mm TB on an LS2 and the other is an LS2 with a 90mm FAST TB on an LS2.
I don't disagree that tuning can get expensive, unless you work up an agreement with your tuner to pay one rate and get free updates. Jeff is doing my car's updates after my new H/C motor is installed...
