My friends 1999 frc 80,000 miles pings when he (trys to)accelerate in 6th gear anyone know what causes this ? and what the fix is

You may want to check the spark plugs or add some Chevron Techron fuel additive to your tank of gas to clean out the system.

He uses Chevron 91 octane and 76 gas only I will tell him about the plugs

He should clean out the carbon. Two ways that I know of, first is the GM top engine cleaner. Second is fuel power. When the engine gets older and builds carbon, they will tend to ping more.

Seafoam from Napa does a pretty good job too. I use it every oil change.
