Default How much Oil Pressure should my 98 C5 have?

I have a 98 C5, Just 7000 miles on it. It has 5-30 mobile 1 and a AC factory oil filter. The oil presuure seems a little low at idle when hot (28 PSI) At 2000 RPM it tops out at 45 PSI. When it is cold it has more PSI than that. I also have a 99 Silverado 5.3 that has 55+ PSI min all the time??? Seems like the Vett should have more PSI than my truck motor? Should I be concerned?? Thanks in advance!!!- Bob

Wow, only 7K miles on a 98.. Talk about your garage queens!!

It varies w/ the oil weight, temperature and filter type.

A few of us have abandoned the AC Delco stuff for Amsoil, K&N, etc. that will help the hot / idle readings.

I'll tell ya a funny one.. GM specs dictate that anything over 5 p.s.i. is "o.k.", so don't complain to a dealer!

Your oil pressure is normal. Just be glad that your gauges are honest. Most cars have dummy gauges because real feedback freaks out drivers. Wait till the summer when a bunch of people start posting about their coolant temps going up to 226 degrees!

no worries. it sounds fine.........

i went with the K&N #HP-1007 oil filter, [and German Castrol 0-30 (which is more like 0-40)]. and my warm oil pressure went up significantly.

My '98 with near 97,000 on it is almost identical. Relax, you should see MANY more miles.

I also have a 98, my oil presure is 29-30 psi hot. Nothing to worry about your oil pressure is normal. I'm impressed 7K on a 98, my car has high mileage compared to your car (I have 19K miles).

Both engines I have had have shown around 40 PSI at 1800 RPM and 210 oil temps.

My 98 reads 189psi, all the time. (Actually I have a bad oil pressure sensor that I need to fix, its a fairly common problem)

Default Oil Pressure ?

Thanks everyone for the quick answers. I think I will go with the K&N oil filter anyway, I already have a K&N air filter in it, along with B&B exhaust. I have had the car for just a year, It came with 2000 miles on it, like new.....but still a 98. I can't wait for better all the snow to go to get more use out of it!!! Thanks once again!!!!!

Default Oil Pressure

My 1998 has 67,000 miles & I was concered too with the 30 lb. oil pressure reading. My 2000 Chevy Silverado has 45 lbs. all the time. I guess it is normal. Thanks for the info.
