I have come upon a great deal on a 98 Corvette with an automatic transmission. Here is my question: is it possible to convert it to a manual transmission, and if so what all is involved/what parts would i need (besides the obvious tranny/pedal set) And about how much would the entire conversion cost? I can get this vette for like 13k. Any help is greatly appreciated. Oh, and BTW i would be doing all of the work with my family/friends so no labor fees.
There is MUCH more to the swap than just the mechanical stuff!!!! There are a TON of electrical sensors and connectors will need to be added or changed. You will need to reprogram the PCM and BCM ect. 13K for a 98 and you still need to purchase the drive train???
Unless you had a doner MN6/MN12 car sitting next to your new car, I would think REAL hard about undertaking this project.
I would look for a good deal on a MN6 car and maybe even a Z06! They are out there! Save your MOD money for som good performance parts that you can add to a good manula trans car.
This is not as difficult as Bill thinks. I as well as many others here have done this before. You can buy all the parts for about $1000. If you have basic tools and abilities, you will have no problem doing this yourself. Good Luck
My buddy and I are about to convert his A4 to a zo6 tranny and we talked and looked things over and i dont think its going to be to difficult to tackle. Maybe the biggest thing is patience and extra skin in the hands. But if your a mechanic minded person you should do ok. If it was me Id look into a Z06, just because Ive always wanted one, but settled on a Black/Black M6 coupe, that I love too! Good Luck!
