Default Zip-Tie Mod Results, Noticable?

I just did the zip-tie mod with the K&N today and I honestly can't say I feel a difference. Does anyone have some dyno results of what kind of results most people have gotten. Maybe I need to let the computer adjust for a few more miles.

Who knows, after driving my Civic beater all day the vette always feels like a damn rocket ship

Anyway, I did the hood seal and have 4ft. of it left so if anyone is in the Maryland area and too lazy to spend $15 for it I will give it to you, just PM me

Yes, let the computer adjust a bit & you should feel some SOTP results...

What is the zip tie mod? Is there a page of free and/or cheap corvette mods? There's a few of them for Camaro's but I havent seen any for Corvettes.

I noticed a SOTP difference with mine, later I changed from the paper filter to a K&N and I can't say that I felt a difference from that. Here's a picture of what mine looks like.

So basically, you buy a K&N air filter and use zip ties to hold it in place?! Nice...

J-rod did this some time ago and backed it up with a dyno, on his C5 it was worth 15rwhp and 11lbs of torque...http://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread...ht=ziptie+dyno I have a modified version of same except I left the lid in place and cut the stock lid so about 90% of the filter shows. This way no zipties are necessary and filter is more firmly held in place.

Thanks guys, mine is similar to 98Z51's, but I removed the metal straps and used the factory clamps with zip ties. 15rwhp for $47, that is my kind of mod...

I sure liked it, want a vararam, but common sense says pay the car off

Anybody else get lots of tire smoke after a 2-4 gear run.

I did this today, along with swapping the LS6 intake manifold over from my Camaro SS. I made new metal straps that are shorter so I can still use the factory clamps. Looks factory, or at least they will after I paint them. The butt-o-meter seems to be registering a bit higher too. What kind of gain do you think I got from that? I'm almost done fabricating my new exhaust, it looks pretty bad *** and I'm almost ready to put it on.

A friend of mine did something strangle with his 99 Fbird. He cut a hole in the bottom side of the box and cut his shroud out as I remember.
Worked really well, but I should have known an Fbody guy couldn't have come up with something this good huh?

c'mon guys. 427CPE is right. The f-body guys invented the free mod. They were modding inlet plastics long before the zip-tie mod showed up.

Oh yeah, we're the only ones crazy enough to start hacking **** up. I hacked the bottom out of my radiator shroud for similar effect a long time ago. Most vette guys I know are afraid to try something like this. What I meant by not being an f-body mod is that the zip tie mod simply isnt possible, on the C5 the engine pulls air from the bottom of the box and the filter sits on top of it, and on f-bodies it is the exact opposite. The engine pulls air through the "lid" which sits on top of the filter, and the box the filter sits on has holes in it. F-body guys just discovered that making those holes bigger gets more air in. Some call it "free ram air"

Carefull with the zipties, they are not designed to hold up to the heat and vibration under the hood. They can stretch or snap causing the filter to sit loose in the air box sucking in dirt.

If you do zipties check 'em often.

Cya!

Did you put the rubber gasket in when you did the zip tie mod?

Default zip-tie

i have a semi-zip tie mod where i still have the lid on,but i had a LARGE opening cut in the box to accomodate the cowl hood.i just put a rubber seal at the front of the hood today(that performance hood seal thing).i bought my seal at auto zone for 14 bucks.(i do live in n.y.and everything cost more here!!!)looks better than i thought(the seal).the air box mod, along with my cowl hood and BIG MOUTH air dam got my temps down around 180 or so while cruising last night/yesterday.
