Default Codes C1286, C1287 and C1288 - How much is this going to cost me?

It looks to be a bad steering sensor. I think I know this is a biggie, but I want to know who has had this done, and how much I should expect to pay at the Stealership.

Check for voltage first. Disconnect at firewall and test for voltage on the light blue middle connector. If it is seeing voltage it is not the sensor. If it is the sensor, it is about 300-400 as I recall. If it has voltage, turn wheel until you find about 2.4v. Either realign tie rods or disconnect wheel and rotate 180 until proper voltage is found.

It's sporatic, but becoming more and more frequent. Do you have a picture of this connector?

I found the sensor, and when I pushed on the connector it clicked into place! I did a quick start and turn of the wheel and it seemed fine. Tomorrow will be the big test. I'll let you all know (if anybody cares!)

On my 04 Cadillac SRX this exact issue cost GM $54K... !!
They could not figure it out... My 4 day old car spent 36 days in the shop in the first two months I owned it. Under Michigan Lemon Law Gm had to buy it back!

Update #1 - So far so good. Drove her for about 45 minutes today with no problems.

Default Just happened to me

I had an alignment performed and I started to throw the same codes......I went under the brake pedal and disconnected the sensor. The wires and connector looked good, snapped it back in place, and NO more problems. That was about a month ago.

Later,
Max

Now see, we have all learned something to day because you responded back to the forum with the cure. A simple loose connection. Glad you got her fixed and thanks for letting us know what you did and where to find it.
