Default valve spring broke (REV) only 12.000mi.

add me to the list of people with broken valve springs.
12,000mi on REV doubles and a small cam (224/224 with .563 lift).
I did some bouncing off the rev limiter. The next day I got a little stumbling and the check engine light would flash with any RPM over 2000.
I suspected a spring and drove it 18 miles very easy. pulled the plugs
and valve covers. found a rich plug on cyl. #5 and a broken exhaust spring. At least the doubles prevented the valve from dropping out.
I ordered the comp 921 spring kit for a replacement from "thunder racing.

Feelin your pain, I broke a REV spring a little over a week ago. 7K easy miles on a mild cam. The Crane spring compressor made the replacement a snap. Same symptoms as yours except #3 exhaust!

TR had a nice spring compressor, a little expensive but it will definitely
save some time and back pain.

Add me to the list. Had less than 3000 miles on mine and broke 1 in 3 pieces. Talked to Rev and assured me these springs would be fine and it they would overnight me a new spring. Put that on and less than 1000 miles later, broke 2 more

Looks like I'm changing valve springs tomorrow night. Any recomendations on springs for my XER lobed 0.601 lift cam?

broken springs--is the engine up to operating temp when this happens? at least 160degrees, w/out a warmup everytime springs will snap, this is prolly common knowledge, just ck'ing

put me on the list too had about 8k miles on it. i have heard that there was a bad batch that went around about a year ago. the prevous owner of my car had them changed one time when he heard about the bad batch. my guess is that he had them change with another bad batch. i end up going with the PRC duel springs.( i hope these are better)

Go with PRC springs (good to .660 lift). If money is not an issue go with Comp 921s.

I always waited for the engine to warm up. its not just the water temp but oil temp. With REV springs it does not matter, at least the old ones(my spring were installed 9/03).
If one breaks you must change all of them . the rest will do the same very soon.

Glad I went with the 921s, but I still worry about them. I now let the car idle for a while before taking it out....

yepper............warm up is a key for a spring with no issues from the factory!
Of course to many bounces off the RL doesn't help either..........I know

I was going to go with the 921s but couldn't get any yesterday. Ended up with a set of the dual crane springs. Took about 5 hours from start to finish and i'm heading on a roadtrip tonight for about 500 miles. I'm going to refrain from beating on it till after I get to the keys and hopefully these spring will last longer than the 3000 miles my REV springs lasted.

Go easy, the doubles have some friction between each spring set.
I like to run them a little then let them cool completely for the first cycle.

Im hearing bad reps about revs the whole year. Good move on Comps 921.

Screw REV or any company that changes the number on their product after it has failed too many times.

I called REV the last time my REV 1116s broke (exhaust), and they said that is not the spring for the LSx and it is discontinued. Yeah..no crap discontinued because they broke a lot...so now they have a new LSx valve spring....

I changed out to some dual AFR springs, but the Comps are a little better..so you will be fine.

I made over 700rwhp with my AFR springs...if they screw up I will change out to some Comps.

My cam is the CompXer 224/224 .581 114 cam.

I followed that theory brother...especially having known and heard about REV valve springs breaking when not warmed up. Mine broke at about 200*..within normal operting temps. I think it had more to do with frequency.

I broke a REV 116 within 50 miles of my TT buildup. No WOT - nothing. Must have been a manufacturing defect.

Your can put me on the broke spring(s) list too. while your at it put me on the broke 9 spring dampners and one found it's way to break the double roller timing chain, then bend a lot of valves list.

when you are breaking these is it the spring or the dampner inside the spring?
