I was in the process of installing a dvd player by splicing the positive and negative power wires from the cigarette lighter in the dash. Everything was up and running fine. Then I took the setup apart for reinstallation and when I reinstalled there was no power to the console cigarette lighter. What happened?
I checked the fuse box under the foot console and everything looked fine. Could I have pulled out some kind of wire while reinstalling the radio in the dash? What is the problem? thanks
I just had a similar problem when installing my Hurst Shifter a few weeks ago. There are two fuses I had to replace on the Instrument Panel Fuse Block, the #1(Console Cigarette Lighter) and #7(Cigarette Lighter). Going off the owners manual it appears that you only need to replace one but both 1 & 7 were toast on mine. Try that and see what happens.

Thanks. But how do you know if there is a problem with the fuses. I looked in the floorwell box and both 1 and 7 looked normal. I tried to pull them out, but was unable. How can you tell if the fuse is blown and can I replace them with spare fuses from the main underhood fusebox?

There is a fuse puller in the engine compartment fuse box. It is a little white looking hooyah. Use it to get the minifuse's out. It just clamps on the colored part of the fuse and you can jerk them right out. You cant tell by just looking at the fuse, you must pull them out. One of my fuses did'nt look completely burnt in two and was questionable but the other was completely toasted. Both turned out to be burnt and had to be replaced.

Thanks SGT. I pulled the fuses and they were burnt. Swapped them out and the problem was fixed.
I would not use that circuit for it also supplies the voltage to the PCM ADLC connector and if you blow that fuse or switch it off you also effect using a tech tool to the car electronics when you need to.
went to replace #1 and #7 and #1 was good but replaced anyways and looked for #7 and there wasn't one...Tried to put one in and the spot where it goes won't take one? (empty w/ nothing to hold the fuse)
confused...2003 C5

Not #1 and #7 in the engine compartment fuse box, 1 & 7 in the passenger side floor board fuse box.

When I pulled my MP3 player, the tip came off and got stuck in the lighter. I used a needle nose plier to pull it out - not smart! There was a spark and to get to eh point. Fuse #1 was blown. I replaced it and even check #7, which was OK. But I'm still not getting power to the lighter. I swapped fuse #1 and #7, still no power. I even tried a different device (radar detector) but still no power.
Is there another inline fuse between the lighter and the fuse box?
