Service "Active handling"/Service "Traction control" Dealer called today
Let me start with a big thanks to all who chimed in, especially Bill Curlee who went above & beyond. Dealer called today & said it was the PCM module (expensive part & labor) & is warrantied by GM for 8/80. Still at dealer but let's hope this is it so I can put this gremlin to bed & put my blue 99' away for the Chicago winter.
Thanks, Ken
Thanks, Ken

NO, I was expecting to hear that it was the EBTCM, quite honestly shocked would be the reaction. Like I said I haven't picked it up yet so we'll see when I get it back.

Don't believe so? I am the second owner, original owner said nothing about an extended warranty! Dealership simply said this module carried an 8/80 warranty????

Thanks for the info, I wasn't aware of this. I've been getting the same warnings. Hopefully I have the same problem.

So even if your factory warantee expires and you don't have an extended policy GM will replace your PCM up to 8/80 ???? Does this include labor???? And how about diagnosis time to figure its the PCM in the first place???
ALSO: Is there a list somewhere that has any other factory extended warantee components for our cars?????

Please put the third degree to the service manager and let us know the background on the 8/80. I may have the same problem and would love to have GM fix their problem on their nickel.

The PCM is considered part of the emissions control system and could have a different federally mandated emissions warranty.
