Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
Install a scan tool.
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Locate the ambient light sensor on the RH DIC switch and cover the sensor with black tape.
Using a scan tool, select IPC data display and monitor the ambient light sensor data.
Does the scan tool display the ambient light sensor data within the specified value?
0-10 Counts
Go to Step 3
Go to Step 9

Turn the headlamps or park lamps ON.
Rotate the dimmer switch clockwise to the full bright position.
Using a scan tool, select IPC data display and monitor the switch dimming data.
Does the scan tool display the switch dimming data within the specified value?
200-255 Counts
Go to Step 4

Turn the headlamps or park lamps ON.
Ambient light sensor still covered.
Dimmer switch still in the full bright position.
Does the gauge backlighting illuminate?

Same thing here. I bought the part from GM parts direct and installed it myself. $150.00 for an hours work vs. $500.00 and a week without the car to let the dealer do it. It was a tough choice
