This is the second level V tranny with only six runs on it two with the N20 547 RWHP. I was driving it this weekend and it did'nt shift from second to third? I had run the battery complety dead and had to jump the car. The car will shift and hold under WOT 1st, 2nd, 3rd, & 4th if you shift manual, but not when its in 3 or overdrive from a start? I have already reflashed the computer, and there is no sign of metal in the tranny???
just a thought...but check if u have reverse light when u put itnto reverse. i had this problem, and it turned out to be the Tranny gear indicator switch. if this switch/relay goes bad, the motor/ecu doesn't know whats going on...
this swtich is located on the drivers side of tranny, its a fairly big unit, about 6" in length and 4" wide...flat plate with two electrical plugs in it...
Thanks for the suggestion but that was'nt the problem. If you run the car WOT and manualy shift it works, and if you start from 3 or OD it does'nt. I have changed the two shift selenoids, and continue to drive it with the HP Tuners scan on to find the problem. It's something in the tune! I'm messing with the MLP charts now
I am having the same exact problem. I have heard it could be the sprag gear or could be 3rd and forth cltuch could be bad. I have no clue what is going on. I have a 1998 c5 Auto tranny bone stock. HELP!!!!!!
Usually the tuning is at fault as i had the problem a few years ago. They way the tuner explained it was the shift maps cannot intersect or the tranny won't know to shift as is required. He took care of mine that way. Hope this helps some.
My level 1V wouldn't make the shift between 2&3 at WOT. Took it to A&A Oxnard Ca. and Charlie the Tuner hooked up his LT and we took a little ride. Voila! now my tranny has never worked better.

Lots of wierd stuff with our A4's that need to be tuned JUST right
