I did some searching but I did not find anything that seemed to answer my questions. I just recently bought my C5 and I like the way it is now except for the new shifter and new exhaust I want. I am into performance but I am also into reliability since it is my daily driver. I am not sure how far I want to take the car in the future but I can see myself wanting about 400-500RWHP. My main concern is the money pit that cars can become and once you start to make more power you have to start getting supporting mods so things dont break. So my question is for the higher power guys out there at what power points did you all start breaking or did you need to upgrade different parts of the car? Mainly the engine, trans, clutch are my biggest concerns unless I am missing something critical that you know about. For a backround on me I have an 00 MN6 and I normally drive the car easy except for when I race. I like to drag race, autocross, and although I have never done it I would like to get some track time on large high speed tracks in the future. I am also undecided if I want forced induction or if I want motor and nitrous but that is not that much of a factor I am just trying to be spacific. So I would like to hear your stories and expertise on this matter and if there was recently a thread on here about this just please disreguard and redirect me with a link.

I have 450RWHP and have not run across any problems yet. (knock on wood). A also road race, drag race and do a lot of backroads driving. The easiest way to save your car from blowing up rearends is limit your traction. I stayed with the stock rubber and insted of hooking and breaking parts, the tires will just spin. My friend just modded his car and put huge Nitto 555RR tires on the back. His first trip to the strip the rearend housing cracked in 3 places. The weak point to these cars with that much power is the clutch so just baby it or put in a LS7 setup. I would go with a head/cam package, L/T, big exhaust, and a good tune. You can get a ton of power and you can't beat that muscle car idle that will shake your antenna back and forth.

Hey howie
i have 493 at the wheels and i destroyed my rearend with my rII's I lifted 3 times and it continued to hop
next time i will launch a bit softer and shouldnt be any problems Good looking car you have and good luck keeping the rearend under it
I ran 410rwhp for a year and a half, at the track and at the strip with no problems. Now that I'm running 540 rwhp I'm starting to hear clunks and funny noises. I would say 450rwhp is the borderline.

Thanks for the help Patrick
The 2000 has meager rod bolts, oil pump, and timing chain ,Mine are from Katech now
Launches will break shafts and the case in the rear,DTE BRACE ,and RPM TRANSMISSION HARDENED SHAFTS Pull your gear and send it to him. I'm not sure about the clutches Rodney is recommending but ,trust him.
If you want to run nox or FI I would pull the engine and install forged rods and pistons .
Now you are free to rock in peace, giddy up

Ok so now its time for my newbie response. I take it the RII's are the Nitto tires and they are sticky. I also see that it seems like 450rwhp is easily obtained with all motor and no need for forced induction or even nitrous. Are all you guys still on the stock clutch I couldn’t decipher all your mods in your signatures? Also rmitchell you say you broke your rear what options are out there for beefier rears? Thanks guys I will stop now with the annoying newbie questions.

Yes, I am still on the stock clutch, but that will be changed soon. There was no need to change it when I did the mods cause the motor stayed in the car. There is options for the beefed up rear end, but I will cross that bridge when we get there. Rmitchell is still running the stocker as well. We replaced it under warranty at my dealership for him. (It's not what you know, it's who you know) I forget who the good aftermarket rear end company is, but I'm sure that somebody will chime in. They were just advertising on here about a week ago. Good luck

Thanks guys I am still enjoying the car in stock form for now but I am sure the bug will get me soon enough. This will help me a lot in the near future.

Good post Patrick. Sounds like its either "hook up and blow up" or keep stock rubber on there and send the hp skyward to 450+ and have a blast. I'm keeping mine stock for now, but once you or Bret start modding I'm sure I'll catch the bug.
Hahahaha I didnt know you were on here that much bill. for this year I will only do suspension and exhaust and maybe small other things. but i know i will want more sooner or later.
