my 200 vette has 26,000 miles on it..My gas guage is dropping from over a quarter tank to 0 without warning. I park my car with over a quarter tank, I start my car in the am and the check guages light is on telling me I am out of gas...how is this posible with 26k miles on my car?
it's a common problem with fuels that have a high sulfer count[that's what sticking on the sender cards].get yourself a bottle of techron, fill up the tank and run it.it should clear up your problem
thanks. think previous owner used regular low grade octane instead of hi..ill try this first
Changing gas isn't gonna do it. All gas is oxygenated. This causes the fuel sender wires/board to corrode which is mostly likely giving you your problem. As suggested above, use the Chevron Techron gas additive to help eliminate the problem.
hmm 2 cans of techron and its been at a guarter tank for 3 days in local driving. I bet in 2 days I will wake up and it will be at 0 again. Luckily the techron was 241
If the problem is fouled fuel sending units, it can take 2-3 tankfuls of additive to clean them up. Berryman Chemtool B-12 also works and is a lot cheaper $2.79 a can from Wallmart. Another member says a six pack of drygas added to one tankful worked for him.
Also use a good gasoline that will help the cleaning process.... Shell V-power or Chevron.
They both have a high level of detergency.

If the additive doesn't work then you need to check of a corroded ground. If that isn't the issue then its time to replace the 2 fuel sending units....1 in each of the two gas tanks...
