Default Output shaft seals...

I've read some things about these seals and that is that there are 2 kinds of seals??An older and a newer/better version???
What is true about that?
I now have the seals with P/N 12369460 but there are also seals wich have the P/N 88996703..

Should or shoulnd't I use the ones with P/N 12369460??And there is a difference, what is it??
Advice please...

Call Bob at Fichtner Chev 1-800-234-5284. He can verify the newer superceding version for you.HTH

Oke ,it's possible to call him but it would be a very expensive phonecall because of me living in The Netherlands( or Holland)...you know, wooden shoes, windmills, tulips and cheese

It's just a matter of installing and see if it works out, or not to install them because they would leak most definitly.Who installed the older version and did NOT have a problem afterwards say for at least a couple(XXXXX) of miles??

I can't remember which part number is which but you want to use the newer seals. If you don't know either, you have a 50/50 shot I guess. Then install is easy enough to where you can just put the other ones in if they ones you do put in fail.

@Cajundude,great link......I can work with that.

The problem is that over here in Holland, the stealership only has 1 partnumber and that is 12369460.
They have never heard of P/N 88996703

So i guess I have to do it with the ones I've got.If this doesn't work out I 'll have to order one from the good old US of A....

Erik,

I have experience with both seals. The 88996703 is the redesigned seal that should be installed in place of the 12369460. When they installed the 123XXX at 7375 miles, it leaked almost immediately and at 8932 miles they installed the 8899xxx. It lasted about 5000 miles before it started leaking again. I now have 17800 miles on a 2000 coupe and it is still leaking on the garage floor. I plan to take it in again, but I don't know what good it will do to have it redone again! I watched the tech do the second install and he did a great job. I think I probably have a rough seal surface on the shaft and it is 'pumping' at every revolution.

I don't know if GM will give me another 'free goodwill repair', but it is probably worth a try.
