Default car won't start after misfire code

I had to car out today and got a misfire code on the DIC, check engine came on. So after clearing out the codes, went to restart, and got a loud bang under the hood. Now the car doesn't start, anyone have any ideas, or help.

Thanks Charlie

what codes did you have? what codes are in it now? if it backfired through the intake, sounds like you leaned out,if so,do you have fuel? be curious to your previous and current faults.

I cleared the codes out, now I don't have anything showing, but the check engine symbol is on. Codes in the car were PO300H, P1571,C1277,U1096,U1064, all had the H with them. I cleared all of them, not sure why I did that! Car is a 97 with 23,000 miles. I was driving and it started stalling, running very poorly, got it home, checked the codes, cleared the codes, then tried to restart the car, when I heard a loud noise from under the engine. Searched a lot of threads tonight, probably will start with new plugs and wires. The car has a full tank of Chevron gas.

Could be right. Did you just fill up then start having problems? Could be a bad tank of gas. Being almost 10 years old you should replace the plugs anyway. The wires arn't nessary unless you rip a stock one. I haven't seen any stock ones go bad unless they were ripped or burned on some headders. Maby its just getting back to you for not being drivin/enjoyed enough. Good luck

when i had a tank full of water (85% water) it didnt misfire or backfire .. it just wouldnt start and if i could get it going by flooring the acc. it would run like a 2-stroke lawn mower

pull two of your plugs, the easy ones, and have a look at what's going on.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts on this. I let it sit all night, started right up this morning. Yes, I just filled it up, always use Chevron. I never had any trouble with the car idling or stalling in any way before. Looks like it could be a bad tank of gas. Will order some plugs, maybe wires from Fichtner tomorrow just to be safe. I know I should drive it more often. All those loud noises have me worried though! Thanks again, Charlie

Well I took the car for a ride, and it is running terrible, it smells bad inside, and a lot of weird noise under the car. It is also smoking out the tailpipes, borla stingers. I'm not getting any codes, and no check engine light. Possible crack in the exhaust system somewhere??

TIA Charlie

Pulled the spark plugs today, they look pretty good, wires look good also, no cracking.

do a fuel test.get a clear glass bottle, pull the fuel filter and fill up he bottle.see what's there.if you got water you will see it.water and gas seperate.the water will be sitting at the bottom.if you have crud, you will see that too.

Do you need a special tool to pull the filter?

what year car do you have? if you're running the old fuel system[before ffs] the fuel filter is on the left rear frame rail.it's not the easiest to get o.if you have the new system[ffs, late 03-present] the filter is in the tank and you will have to get your sample from the rail.yes you need the special release tool[can be done without it,but if you've never done it,get the release tool]

97, I do not have the tool. Might be time to tow the car somewhere. I have new plugs and wires ordered from Bob today, I don't think that's the problem here though.
