If you dont have any codes, I would suspect that you have carbon build up...you need to de carbon the engine... seach GM decarb procedure.

2 things I noticed buying gas from one particular station (Exxon)would cause pinging for me..I didn't really pay attention at first but I started to be concious of where I filled up and when the rpoblem started..so I stopped going there..also had the car tuned and that solved the rest of it...I also use Redline S1 every few tanks....I buy it by the case....12 bottles in a case I usually split the case with someone 6 bottles last me quite awhile since the car isn't my DD..

You'll hear mostly during engine load - for example going up a hill, or when first shifting into a high gear such as overdrive, when you should be in a lower gear. The sound is more annoying than anything else because it should like engine is loose and falling apart.
Its more difficult to detect at higher rpm because of the high volume of the exhaust note...however, that's when its really dangerous and can cause damage.
