TPS battery replacement
I read the old thread a while back describing the replacement of the batteries in the 97-00 tire pressure sensors, and decided to try it. I never saw a final answer on a good material to re-encapsulate the batteries after replacement. The original stuff is a sort of hard rubbery material; nothing I recognize.
Some suggestions were:
JB Weld (seems too permanent)
Epoxy (same)
Latex caulk (probably electrically conductive, at least until cured)
Plier handle rubber coating stuff
Pure silicone sealer
Has anyone done this & used any of the above, or found anything better? I'm thinking I'll use the silicone. I put a blob on my workbench, & got what appeared to be infinite resistance with a DMM, so it shouldn't short out the batteries. But I think it has acetic acid in it, which might have a corrosive action on them.
I used sum stuff called Liquid Electrical Tape, from Home Depot. It is probably similar to the plier handle rubber coating. Very non conductive but requires multiple applications to fill the void around the battery. When dry it is harder than silicone rubber but not as hard as the original potting material. Should be easy to remove. Considered using PC-7 but it seemed to be really hard and would be difficult to remove.
