Default How to remove brake pedal from Auto (come in A4 to MN6 folks)

I gave up trying to swap the brake pedal.

I can get to one side of the bolt but not the other side. At least, not as far as I can see.

Unless someone knows otherwise, it looks like the entire magnesium assembly has to be removed to get to the automatic brake pedal.

Anyone know if the pedal can be removed without removing the entire assembly? How do the A4 to MN6 folks do it?

Any help would be appreciated

EG

HEY EG -

Did you check the service manual, and if so, what does it say? I'm busy for a few hours, but if I get a minute, I'll try and check my service manual and post a brief description of what the manual says is required.

However, as we all know, there usually is an easier method of doing what the service manuals call for!

when we did my buddies we had to take the hole dash apart and loosen the streering column We took out the whole assembly, It sucked, but we later found out if you take the radio out and that kick panel you should beable to diassamble it without removing the whole dash. I just heard that so im not sure how true that is. But good luck with it that was the touchest part of the whole swap. It was well worth it! GOOD LUCK!!!!!

I did the opposite as you and converted my '98 from an M6 to an A4. It's going back a few years now, but I remember it was fairly easy to swap the pedal assemblies out. Only one bolt is troublesome because you can't see it, but with the right combination of extensions and socket (or something like that) it can be removed. Sorry I don't remember all of the details, but I do remember that it was easier than I had thought.

I have my entire dash apart except for the dash cover and there is no way to get to the other side of that brake pedal bolt.

Oh well, it looks like I will have to remove the entire assembly.

Thanks for the replies everyone

no, he couldn't handle all the cooridination going on w/ the clutch/gas/shifting

althought the 'repeated walings' might be less severe if he went the M6 route, re: Chris and I in back to back runs(same car, two different drivers)

I have a powdercoated brake pedal that I am trying to swap with my stock one. Just trying to get some help on how to get the stock A4 pedal out without dissembling the entire assembly (steering column, wiring etc.)

A lot of you out there have done manual to automatic conversions - and vice versa.

So you had to change your brake pedal...... so how did you get it out? Did the whole assembly have to be removed (as the service manual says)? Or is there a shortcut?

Here's the bolt and nut in question. I can get to the bolt head on the drivers side from below, no problems - but the nut is buried in the assembly.

Any help at all would be appreciated.

EG

6 YEAR old thread

You can get to both sides of the bolt. You need small hands or a long wrench
