I have a C6 shifter in my 2000, and it is one of the worst shifters I have ever driven, worse then my 1994 formula. Side to side play is rediculous, throws are about a mile long, and its too tall. Is there any difference between this and the C6 Z06 shifter, or should I just goto a kirban/b&m/hurst? I have a kirban in my 1994 Z28, and LOVE it, smooth as can be and not slop, no noise, with adjustable stops. So should I try one of those? Also is there a way to keep the C6 shifter ball, if I go with another shifter?
I went from the Hurst to the C6 shifter and have been very happy with it. The throws are a little longer, but no "notchy" shift engagements - silky smooth. I gues it just goes to show that shifters are like exhaust systems - very subjective based on what each individual driver is looking for. I'm curious about the new Z06 shifter too.
I had the Hurst but could never get rid of the rattle. I also had hard time getting into reverse. I bought the C6Z06 from Fred Beans and like it a lot. Throws are longer than the Hurst but very solid.
I put the C6-ZO6 shifter on my 03 car. The throw is shorter and gates are closer to gether than the stock unit. The only difference between the C6 unit and the C6-Zo6 shifter is the length and angle of the shifter rod. The ZO6 unit is only slightly shorter, but it is angled back about 10 degrees farther. IT falls exactly where my hand is placed, and is very easy to use. IMHO one of the best mods I have made to date.

To me it feels like a stock shifter (exactly what it is) It has no on-center feel, is very mushy, and too tall. I wish there were more people on this forum from the memphis area, I'd like to go feel the other shifters and see what I like best :-/

I bought one too and soon put my Hurst back in, much better. The 2nd, 4th and 6th gear throws are just too long for me, maybe if I was shorter it would be alright.
I've tried quite a few and there certainly are advantages and disadvantages of each. I'm a mechanical type of person and the direct, bolt-action feel of the traditional aftermarket short-throw shifters is what I really like. Although the throw of most is very close, only the BPP can be configured in any of 16 different positions to tailor-fit any physique.

Sounds like you want a Hurst Every time I shift my Hurst it reminds me how much I dig it - one of the best mods to date.
As you can see, everyone's different - just like asking which cat-back sounds best.
I drove my friend's 99 FRC with a B&M Ripper in it. While just sitting in the driveway i thought it took a little too much lateral force to move. But on the road it didnt feel like that at all. Felt real good and DEFINATELY short.
I had the new B&M shifter that just came out, but like most with wives I had her say "It sucks, but what ever you want hun"
Well we all know what that means!
I liked the B&M New shifter it was as expected "Knochy" but it was cool, like driving a race car. Kind of reminds me when I was a kid driving my moms 86 Porche.
I bought the new C6 shifter from Fread Beans because they have the best prices. I just put it in and I agree. It does seem to have the longer throws but I dig the **** and the feel. it is shorter but nothing like the B&M and Hurst.
Bottom line? If your looking for a "Sport shifter" go with the B&M or Hurst, you wont be disapointed. If your looking for just a little shorter through and shorter hieght but want the stock feel? Go with the new C6 Shifter.
Whats this I hear about being able to pull the hurst straight up, is it really much of an issue?

If you can pull it straight up you installed it completely wrong....as in you didnt bolt it down and used double sided tape or something.
I think its hilarious whoever started that rumor anyway...why on earth would you pull up on a shifter??? Its a lever to shift gears for cryin out loud...
Everyone has an opinion. My opinion of the Hurst was that I hated it. I love the C6Z06 shifter. You need to drive a vette with each, if you have that option, and then make a decision.
P.S. there is a Hurst for sale in the parts section.

Dude, I started it and what I said was the shifter can be pulled straight up within the baseplate. The baseplate stays put, the lever pulls up against the springs. Try it if you have one. The springs are installed on top of the shifter on either side and then the set screws go on top of the springs to adjust the tension of the spring.
