Which Ford Brake Fluid? DOT 3 or DOT 4?
Ok guys,
Those of you who have switched to the Ford Brake Fluid which one are you running in your car, the DOT 3 or the DOT 4? I went to buy some today and the guy at the Parts counter has had several Vette owners come in to buy brake fluid and he sold me the DOT 4. But I'm not sure if I should use the DOT 4 or go back and get the DOT 3 instead. Comments and your experiences are greatly appreciated! I need to know by tomorrow morning! Thanks!

There are so many good brake fluids on the market now with boiling points much higher than Fords for under $8 a qt. At least imho. Don't use anything Ford! :smash:

Thanks for the replies so far. For the record the DOT 4 I got came in a blue 16oz metal can and said it was for the Ford Focus! The DOT 3 was in a 12oz white and black plastic bottle. The DOT 4 can said that it "exceeds the wet boiling point 356 degree requirement." Now I don't plan to use up my brakes on some track, my car doesn't see that yet and when it does I'll change out fluids then anyway.
Keep the replies coming, I need all the opinions and info I can get before tomorrow afternoon!

Tormania:
Ford brake fluid has a good reputation, and you can use either DOT 3 or 4. The difference is that DOT 4 has a higher boiling point. YIf you don't do high-performance driving, you'll never notice the difference between DOT 3 and 4. You can mix them (although the boiling point of the mixture won't be as high) because both are glycol based (also, they are required by law to be compatible).

lyonsh,
Thanks for that clarification. I guess I just wanted to be sure that running a DOT 4 fluid in the brake system wouldn't cause me problems down the road. I'll go with the DOT 4 I already have then and be happy with it! Thanks!
Anymore opinions from folks?

The Dot 4 you have will work just fine. As you stated prevoiusly the way you drive is the deciding factor and you will be well served with the Dot 4.
