A lot of people say the bottom by removing the whole drivetrain. I removed mine from the top without any problems. I can tell you the MTI removes all of their engines from the top despite the fact they have a lot of lifts, so I would say the top works just fine, especially for the home mechanic.
although you can't beat the 'shock' factor when the owner stops by and sees his/her car on the lift minus the complete drivetrain/suspension
Yea, I could imagine. The few people that came over to my house while the project was in progress had some funny looks on their faces. A perfectly shined, running great car just ripped to part and stuff covering all of the floor of the 3 car garage. Gotta love it.
