Default Tilt steering broke

My wife went to drive the car today, for the first time and she went to tilt the wheel and nothing! I went out and checked it and it feels like the lever/switch is broke. Has anyone experienced this before and is it an easy fix? Almost forgot 03 coupe.

I had my 04 stick in the up position once. I had let it swing up at full force (without me holding it) and when I went to lower it would not. I had to fiddle with it a while and it finally freed itself. Is that the kind of problem you are having?

Kind of. She said she pulled the lever and it flew up and now the lever feels like its broke. It just kind of goes back and forth with no tension on it?

Luckily I did get it free without taking it apart by pulling the lever and wiggling the wheel. You will need to take the lower knee pad off if you can't get it to work but if the lever is not engaging the release you will probably need to take it in for service. If you want to take the bolster off follow the instructions in this how to: http://www.ls1howto.com/index.php?ar...24&printable=y It is to not hard to remove the knee pad but be careful when putting back if you have the sensor by the ignition because it will break off if not careful. Not sure how much you'll be able to see of the tilt mechanism but that's about as far as you should go unless you are familiar with the dash.

Thanks, but I got it fixed. Just took the two covers loose behind the steering wheel and found the (2) locking mechanisms for the tilt. I got a long screw driver and tried lifting them up and it released! Once it did that the lever worked fine. Thanks.

That great. Glad you got it. I went out this morning and looked at it and could see that taking off that cover would alow access to that area. Good to know if it happens again what to do if I can't free it.
