I've been running my Vortex on my Y2K C5 for about a month now and got my monthly Shell Card statement... Inspite of the fact that I've been filling up my motorcycle too... I've been using a whole lot more gas in the C5!
Anybody else notice this too? I assume this is normal, but had no idea I'd be using up this much gas!
I put mine on Saturday and I noticed he same thing. I think it may consume a little more gas. I also think I'm stomping on it more to feel the new power and that doesn't help. If I had wanted great gas milage though I would have bought a honda
That is odd. I noticed the same thing on my '98 A4 when I installed my ProFlow+. I lost about 2 mpg mixed driving. My driving style is VERY relaxed.
I thought it might be because the 97/98 uses vacuum to adjust the FPR and I don't have a "recurve hose". But on a Y2k? That's odd. Maybe it is your driving style.
Dave Hill, in his disscussion about intakes did mention gas mileage. I don't check mine manuelly, but my mileage has increased sightly with the Vortex....at 62mph in 6th...how I drive to work my instant MPG used to be around 33-35, with vortex its 35-37.
I think the fuel mileage goes down when the foot goes down because the new filter allows more air into the engine. If there is more air I would expect the computer will provide more fuel to accomodate.
Yesterday I drove 400 miles completely around Mount Rainier and I drove conservatively so that I could enjoy the scenery with the top down. My mileage showed 31.0 on the DIC. This car is the most economical car I ever owned---AND the fastes by far!
Hmmmm... it probably is my style of driving, I have been stomping on it a bit, but did that before... one thing though, I never use 6th gear, maybe I'll give that a try.
Lower mileage? That's the opposite of what happened to me. I've been running my Vortex for a couple weeks now and I drive exactly the same miles, route, etc. every day of every week. I'm sure that I am getting about 1.2 mpg better with the Vortex. This is verified by the DIC and my gas receipts. I use the same pump at the same station and always stop after the pump shuts off. I am surely driving more aggressively (higher RPMs and a heavier foot) but I still seem to get better mileage.
Anyone else getting better mileage with the Vortex???
It does sort of make sense 'cuz if the engine is getting more air (and colder air) and not having to struggle to get it, it may need less gas for good combustion. Think about it... which is less tiring for you, running a marathon while breathing through a straw or running with your big 'ol mouth wide open?
Check mileage real close b/4 having Vortex put on and right after. It did increase my milage for the 1st few days. :blueangel: Then I started getting on it more and more, and for some unknown reason, my mileage has droped. :reddevil Can't be because I am driving it a lot differant than b/4, can it? Na. Never. :nono:
