Hey Shylor, don't feel bad, I posted this topic about this particular filter months back and got the same responses. The main thing that nobody has mentioned, though, is the fact that the company says this filter will do a much better job of filtering your oil! I mean catching smaller particles that regular filters cannot catch, not just keeping your oil cleaner for a greater amount of time. Then would it be worth the $200 bucks if this were true? You bet your a$$ it would be!
I have not seen any data on this filter in comparison with disposable ones so I don't know if their claims are true or not. But if their claims are accurate, it's a no brainer! As far as it hangin down lower, which I did not know, that is a major problem and could sway me away from it even WITH better filtering properties.
POST #7: I've used other brands of re-usable filters on a number of classic Chevy and Ford hot rods over the years. They have their advantages. Whether it's worth the initial cost of the re-usable filter is up to the car owner. It was nice to know I didn't have to drive 20 miles to find a filter.
Most of us will never bother to cut open an off the shelf filter open to see if there's any debris of concern. That's the big advantage. Appearance is an advantage. Some of the re-usable filters have the capacity to filter much finer microns of debris than off the shelf filters. There's also the advantage of saving landfills from more tossed out oil filters.
I did answer to that issue and if memory serves me correctly, I answered the same way to your question posed previously. The bigger concern on a Corvette is the critical ride height of the filter. I've used the re-usable filters on three different '55-56-57 Chevy, which obviously don't have the same low right height.
I know the manufacturers of the re-usable filters I used made only two models, a tall and a short. The short model is at least twice the length of the filter for a C5/Z06 LSx motors, so that should be the real deciding factor, not cost (at least IMO). I doubt that you'll find a company who would tool up a short LSx size re-usable filter that would apply only to our Corvettes, there just wouldn't be a demand for them at $200 a whack.
If you really want to use such a filter, mount it remotely and safely out of harms way.

PurePower lifetime oil filter service limits per their instruction sheet is as follows. "You should inspect the stainless steel filter element at about 1000 miles for lint and debris. If the filter is clean you can extend your service interval to 8,000 - 10,000 miles for gasoline engines. If your filter shows more than 20 pieces of debris, clean, reinstall and inspect at 1,000 miles." Note this filter is a flow through filter that filters down to 5 microns as opposed to flow by filters with paper media. There is no bypass in the PurePower and I did notice an increase in hot running(normal) oil pressure of about 5-7 PSI. I have now cut open about 6 brands of standard filters and you guys will be amazed at how cheap some are and how little it takes to open the bypass which then results in unfiltered oil. The filter in the PurePower is very similar to what we use on our Pratt & Whitney Turbo Props and General Electric CF 34 turbofans So I know it's capabilities but right now the only way I would go back to a PurePower would be if I could remote mount it for better protection. The answer to the question coming is yes the filter that was on my car was specific to Chevrolet LS1/LS2 engines.

Yes you did! You were the only one to address that & I may have not read far enough into your post, sorry

Shows how much I know. :o I thought the bypass came from the relief valve in oil PUMP opening to avoide filter overpressure rather than there being a valve in the filter. I have an innate curiosity about this stuff so I'll be in the garage taking a filter apart if you need me.
