Default seat belt sensor....

Hello Fellow Members,
Does anyone know how to re connect this sensor? My plan is to install some corbeau gts 2 seats, and use the factory seat belts. Any help is always appreciated.....

The only seatbelt sensor i know of is inside of the buckle. IT determines when the latch is inserted into the buckle. When the buckle is unlatched, the seatbelt light on the dash is lit.

Depending on the year of your C5 there are either 1 or 2 connectors under the seat, when you remove the seat, disconnect all the connectors under the seat. It takes literally takes a few seconds to disconnect.

The problem comes in when you change the seats.

I am not sure if the buckle is directly connected to the floor or if it connects to a wireharness under the seat. If its directly to the floor, just reuse it. If its part of the seat harness, you'll have to remove the wireharness and attach it to your new seat. Again, different year seats have different wirharnesses. I would get some pictures of the bottom of your seat and post them.

Usually, seatbelts have a very simply on or off switch so it could be simple to bypass should you have to go that far.

Thanks for your post. The connector goes into the seats wiring harness. However i cannot use my old harness since the seat has been sold. So all i have to work with is the seat belt sensor plug and the two plugs for the driver-side seat. Can this bypass even be done? My fear is that there is another control unit under the seat which is needed to produce the right signal. Since the seat has been removed, the HUD displays "service ride control" so i guess my fear is coming to bite me........but no seat belt light...or is this the seat belt light?

OK first off I'm not sure why its giving you a service ride control.
Do you have the adjustable suspension (the 2 or 3 selectable switch right in front of the arm rest?) If so, do you have the 2 or 3 way switch disconnected?

I have had my seat out of the car and still drove the car (just in my driveway) and this message did not appear. However, i did get this message as soon as i disconnected my three way switch (i have F45 suspension). Simply plug in the switch and restart the car. Just leave it connected for the time being so you can further diagnose...this should get rid of the message. As far as i know the seat should not mess with the ride control.

I see you are on right now so ill send you a PM

Now you should be getting a TON of other codes in the DIC...all of them in the SCM seat control module. but they should NOT bring on any lights EXCEPT for the fasten seatbelt light.

Seatbelt buckles usually use one or two of 3 possible methods.
1. Slide switch: has two wires conected to a board and a plastic slide with a piece of metal in it and when the latch is inserted in the buckle it moves the plastic slide between the two wires and completes the circuit.
2. Button switch. two wires again but when the latch plate is inserted it depresses a button that completes the circuit.
3. Hall effect switch. when the latch plate is inserted, it moves a magnet into a zone of a sensor. the car picks up a change in voltage and determines whether the car is buckled or not.

1 is the cheapest, oldest, least possible abilities, and least reliable
2 is similar to 1 but is more expensive and not usually used.
3 is the newest technology, most expensive and probably not used in the C5 vette

my guess is #1 so you have to find the two wires that WOULD be connected during a buckled state and connect them. This should turn the light off. or you could just remove the bulb from the cluster, OR you could find the wires coming off the buckle and figure out where they run and just connect the buckle to the floor connector (again youd have to find the proper wires in the floor) this is assuming that the seat control module never changes the signal (which it probably does)

The other thing is was just thinking about is...i bet the airbags are tied into the seatbelts. Meaning that the airbags may not go off if they determine that the buckles are not buckled properly. You really need to get a service manual for your 02 vette and star making sure that everything will work properly. i wont be able to help much more as my 97 is much different from your 02 regarding the connectors.

Thanks....good news is all is well...after plugging in the suspension control unit-service ride control went off...no codes well no comm with scm...no air bag light, and no seat belt light either, it just blinks for a few seconds and turns off.. Bad news: Telescoping wheel is out still....Anyone know the relation between the two? And manuals are on the way......
