I don't know that I would use them - Do this: get yourself a plastic scraper like is used to scrape ice of car windows, and use that to scrape the gasket material off of the heads and block mating surface.
Then, get yourself a can of spray gasket remover (available at NAPA or most car parts stores), and spray it on the block surface and the head mating surface. Go have a cold one and come back 15 minutes later. Take a clean rag and wife the head and block mating surfaces off, being sure to remove all of the spray on gasket remover.
