Lets discuss the mighty 402 Who has experiance ????
Looking for the bang for the buck long block and the 402 sounds like the ticket. Some of these questions may be elementary so please forgive.
-Is the 402 based on the 346 block?
-Will all my acc. mount to a 402?
- Will I need new headers? Currently have a full QTP system that I love
- With a built 402 is a FAST 102 a perfect match?
- Would AFR 245's or a like head be to much?
- Looking for a nasty cam that idles what is available?
- What is the price and weight differance for a iron or aluminum block?
- What can I expect to pay for a shortblock forged?

NO....its a larger bore from the factory. You cant bore a 346 block that large.
-Will all my acc. mount to a 402?
Yes....externally its pretty much identical. You need to drill and tap two bosses on the block to relocate your knock sensors

Not really....a 1.75 can still work well in a combination aimed at street more than strip performance
- With a built 402 is a FAST 102 a perfect match?
Yes....have it properly ported to double the gains....I might know a guy
- Would AFR 245's or a like head be to much?
Yes....the new 230 AFR's are a much better choice
- Looking for a nasty cam that idles what is available?
Nasty cam that idles....thats kind of an oxy moron.....you want the right cam and you dont necessarily need nasty. I can help with that as well
- What is the price and weight differance for a iron or aluminum block?
Go aluminum....your building a Vette and its sacrilege to add 100 lbs to the nose. They aren't that expensive anyhow but whatever money you save isn't worth it.
- What can I expect to pay for a shortblock forged?
Depends who builds it....price and quality are the two variables here. There are a few different sources that sell them....a search would quickly alert you to most of them.
Good luck....and consider the LS3 based version for a few hundred more.....you get an extra 14 cubes which is approximately 18 ft/lbs of torque for the few hundred bucks....also worth it IMO

Spoken by the god himself. HAHA I WILL truly take all this to heart Tony. You are the man around here. I planned on purchasing a FAST combo and coming to you for the porting and heads/cam guidence. I am working with Mike M. Over at GDP here in Nor Cal. Once I have a short block I will come to you for some ideas. In the meantime if you have any super deals on a FAST combo let me know.

Forget 402's. That's before GM started producing the LS3. It's a much better platform to build a stroker motor, IMO. I'm in the same place as you, having certain parts that I'd like to reuse. Im my case, it's my TF heads, but to optimize a LS3 stroker build, I'll probably have to ditch them in favor of something else.
