Default Nitrous and Propane...500RWTQ

Someone please help me understand the difference between this set up and just Nitrous. http://www.btrvette.com Tom (BTR) is running this set up on his bone stock C5 and dynoed over 500RWTQ and 400RWHP. Talked with guys running it on a Viper and they love it. It's soft off of the line and they say a lot safer because the propane makes the fuel so rich. Is this a good set-up? Need some experienced advice. I want this set-up...does it look good?

So now they need to carry TWO bottles around in their cars? No thanks. Propane stinks too.

I know some guy in CT that has it in his Viper. In my opinion, you don't need the propane. Too much of a hastle. I'd rather just stick w/ my NX package.

This was one package I checked out when I was researching my nitrous buy. Called and talked to the head of the company. He believes greatly in his system. He uses propane from a tank in the rear of your car to add to the nitrous to make it a "wet" system in stead of gasoline which most wet systems use (tnt, NX ). He sells a lot to viper owners.

The thinking is that propane will not puddle in the intake manifold as liquid gasoline can. It also richens out the mix more than gasoline. Rick is safe but too rich hurts performance.

I decided against this system for two reasons, one of cost and the other was I really didnt want a propane tank in the rear of my c5 in case of a rear end collision, as propane is very flammable. But it does have some unique features. If you go with it let us know how it works out. Jeff

Hey 2thdr, I know you took your nitrous out because it damage your engine, please let me know how this happened. What was damaged, what in the nitrous safetys failed or what caused the nitrous to damage your car. Thanks for the info, Jeff

KaaaaBOOOOOOM!!!

What's the goal of propane vs. a wet setup tapping the stock fuel rails?
I've seen juiced and blown vipers using high octane supplemental fuel cells. That's another option.

Is direct port fogging for both juice & fuel?

Is the Viper fuel system too weak to tap their rails?

Mellow Yellow,
The stock viperfuel system is strong enought to support a large N2O set up. A plate system uses low pressure fuel being hit with a high pressure blast of N2O to atomize the mixture to them be sucked into the intake. The propane system is used in the viper because of the design on our intakes. The viper intake is real long and susceptible(sp?) to fuel puddling which can cause the air box or even the upper intake to blow off. The propane takes the place of the fuel and since it's a gas it can't puddle in the intake. With all of that crap said I still run the NX wet system on my viper and wouldn't consider putting a propane tank in my car. Maybe after I blow up my 1st intake I will convert

Nitrous and propane sounds like a bomb to me.

Here's what I know about propane which may be or may not be any help.

With propane alone you need real high compression or your not going to make any HP. Propane powered vehicles have been around for years and run great. My father owns a trucking Co. that uses yard tractors with 391ci fords engs. to move semi trailers around in the yard. The gas powered ones run comp. ratio of about 8:1 and the same tractor on propane has to have a comp. ratio of approx. 12:1 to make the same power as the gas engine.

Nitrous and Propane might work or it might make the biggest fireball of the day too. Propane knows how to burn and Nitrous knows how to help it burn.
Sounds like a bomb to me

CrazyG,
I think the system offers added safety for sticking solenoids and better performance. I don't personally see where a rear end accident would be anymore dangerous. You could argue both ways.... The cost appears to be equivalent with a complete NX system. I like the idea of no detonation due to the rich condition of propane. You know as well as I that the Viper guys love this setup. Go for it! You can be our forum test piggy! I'll even volunteer for install support!

Mike

There is no way I would want a propane tank in my car. Its flammable. Pipelines and refineries dealing with propane explode all the time. All consumer propane is odorized.
