Can anyone confirm (or deny) comment made on another forum about the ASR not working after doing the '98 to '02 conversion.

My PCM is functional, but, for some reason, not allowing ANYONE to read or write to it - so my dreams of getting a decent tune on this thing are 'up the creek' without finding a solution. The '98 to '02 solution looks quite 'do-able', but it would be nice to know for sure if I'm about to lose traction control.
My traction control works just fine. I did have to remove a wire for the fuel gauge to work properly if I remember right.

Fascinating discussion indeed- how does this conversion factor into passing emissions? In my state- our emissions are done via an OBDII reading. If a VIN from a newer car is used, I'm hoping it won't cause it to automatically fail if it doesn't match the VIN on record...

Default Can you swap out 98 C5 PCM for a C6 PCM?

There seems to be alot of misinformation about the computers in our cars, how they work and if they are interchangeable or not... I'm running E-85 fuel in my 383 Stroker and wanted to know if I could swap my 1998 C5 PCM for a C6 PCM? The C6 PCM is fast enough to run a Flex fuel setup and the C5 PCM is too slow...

Thanks,

Roger

EFI LIVE will let you put the correct vin in the PCM no matter what year or model the vehicle is.

You should have no problems if it's tuned correctly.

Do you know if the HP Tuners 3.0 version will let you change the vin number like EFI LIVE.

Default What I know of it....

What I know of it, HPT can change a vin, but there are limits I think.

I don't believe you can outright "punch in a new vin" like you can with efi live.

One reason being that HPT uses the vin it sees to set itself up and make decisions on licensing and such

and compatibility of tunes. I also believe you need to have a full YEAR/MODEL license or "group License"

to perform some of the vin related functions.

Single license users won't like have any of such features.

I'm not really up to speed on how they do what they do.... I know EFI LIVE very well.

Maybe someone out there can add to this conversation?

Going back to the 98 to 2000 PCM conversion, it looks like there are a lot of problems to overcome. I'm new to tuning. I think I'll keep my original PCM. What opinion, If any, does anyone have about using J. Solomon Kostelnik - lt1pcmtuning.com to tune my 98 PCM?

In my opinion..... In most cases, it IS NOT worth the trouble or time to switch to the later OSs or software versions, or pcms.....

Unless that is you're after some EFI LIVE Custom OSs for boosted

cars and even then it's still a pain in the ***.

I've seen guys do it just because they think it's "better" some how.....

But usually not worth it.

There is good reason Chuck, when you make a 97/98 PCM operate a high powered automatic, the processor is not fast enough to keep up with transmission shifting.

I have seen this more times than I can count, all corrected with updating the PCM. IMHO it's an easy swap, I had it down to about four hours.

And of course the lack proper boosted VE tables etc.

The reason I mention it..... is that there are many people who this that this is an option for your every day car....

These posts mislead people into thinking it's just "BETTER" in some way.

When you are making big power WITH an auto.... This mod has it's place, but for most people out there....

It's just not worth the time or trouble.

A suggestion that makes this job easier for me: Buy some spare plugs for the ECM. Pull the pin from the old plug and move it to the new. Once completed, you'll have some plugs that you can sell if you care to spend the time.

Roger,,

I know this is a very old post.. But I've Dove deep into C6 wiring harnesses, all of them. I got them from a 2008 C6 w 5k miles total and it's a good means for me to wiring my build. I'm using a selection of the 08 Vintage parts in this build, which is powered by a GM Performance LS3.

The 08 Corvette ECM and BCM, communications interfacing to the other computer modules, is completely different. So I'm wondering what was your decision on the ECM Swap ?

Michael..
