Re: What type of oil do you use? (Jim 47)
I remember a few years ago reading a very good report from the ZR1 board on oils...It did rate red line and amsoil as the very best, but mobile 1 was a very close 3rd on the list...I think any full synthetic oil will work excellent for the LS1...

Anyone else see this article by Hib Halverson? It recommends 10W30 over 5W30 unless you're driving in the arctic. They say the GM Corvette Service Manual even says you can use 10W30 for ambient temps above 0 deg F.

This makes sense to me, but anyone have any backup/confirmation that this won't hurt the engine? :) Just want a little more confirmation before I switch over.
Oh, article also says that any full synthetic should work. They recommend Red Line over Mobil 1. It does not list Valvoline, and I know there was a stink a few years ago about how some "synthetic" oil was not a true synthetic. I forget whether it was Valvoline or not. I'd read the label on that Valvoline carefully.

Re: What type of oil do you use? (Bleck)
I've stuck with the Mobil 1 5w-30. It does deteriorate a lot quicker in the heat of the summer. I'll prolly go with 10w-30 when it gets real hot again.
Bleck-I know of more than one person who has used 10w-30 during summer months with good results.

At pretty much every race this year, the C5R's have changed at least one of the car's motors during the event. Therefor, I imagine they change there oil SLIGHTLY LESS OFTEN than they change engines
I've had engine failures, but it was always due to a problem Not relating to the type of oil. I like synthetics, but they are just screwing the public too hard!
btw, Ijust noticed that the Havoline synthetic that I usually buy has been re-packaged, and the price went from $3.25 to $4.25 for the same product at the same store (Advance)

I would buy the Mobil 1 from a local dealer... Walmart a parts store.. Get a UPF-44 Filter ACDelco and have your local guys put it in.
If you like how they do it...let them do it but I would not put any drink other than Mobil 1 in it.. The engine was made around it.
Good luck.. :chevy

Mobile 1, always. Change anywhere from 3 to 5 thousand miles. Drive all year around, in all weather.
