Default WIX vs UPF-44 Oil Filter and PCV Valve

I got my oil analysis back from Blackstone Labs. I changed from a Premium DELCO UPF-44 to a WIX (same as NAPA Gold) oil filter. After 6200 miles with no oil usage, NO DIFFERENCE in filtering. Blackstone even said that they usually see no different in filtering. I do see a big difference in oil pressure though, 10-15 psi more cold ! This is why I changed. BTW, I have over 107,000 miles on this car.

I had installed the special, small hole PCV Valve that is supposed to end oil in manifold for Chevy Trucks (V8's). Well, there were no bad results from this. NO moisure or any other solubles in oil at all. I forget the part number of this part, I posted it before.

Some people still special order the UPF44 filters and pay a premium for them.. I never used the UPF filters, but switched to WIX a long time ago when I had problems with ACDelco filters sealing on other cars.
I agree that the UPF filters seem to be more restictive and not worth the trouble to keep trying to use them.

Another good oil filter is the K&N. Forum member Patman had a few oil analysis done after using them and always reported great results. This is the filter I use on my C5's engine and our Lexus engine. That 1-inch welded-on nut is a great idea!

Default Did the same

Changed to NAPA Gold flters at 15,000 miles and also changed to the small hole no valve PCV valve at 18,000 miles. No ill effects, oil's as clean as any car I've owned. Oil pressure's fine. Think I'll stick with the changes. No catch can yet, use very little oil.

I use the Wix 51042 on my car and I love them! I get awesome cold oil pressure too. Did you notice an improvement in hot oil pressure?

The NAPA Gold/Wix filters are the exact same filters all Nascar race cars use. I've read about them being one of the best filters you can buy. I did run one of the UPF44 filters once and also noticed a pressure drop. As far as the K&N filters are concerned, my car is lowered and the one time I used one I had scrape marks on the nut. That scared me. No scrapes on filters without the nut. The nut sticks down lower than the oil pan.

I have my oil analyzed by Terry Dyson, he told me several years ago to get rid of the UPF-44 due to its poor oil flow. Funny thing is, GM advertised it as better oil flow. I noticed that any noises on cold start were gone as soon as I removed the filter. I now run the Amsoil EO-32 based on Terry's recommendation.

The Amsoil EaO series is the best oil filter available today.

Any info on the new Mobil 1 Extended Performance Oil Filters? That is what I am running on my wife's 2007 Escalade with the 6.2L. I am curious to know how the Mobil 1 oil filter stacks up against the rest. Any test results out there on the newest Mobil 1 oil filter?

FYI, for those that can't find Wix filters locally, both the Wix 51042 and the AMSOIL EAO32 can be bought online via AMSOIL (info in my sig) benefiting my dealership and the forum.

They are a decent filter, but for a regularly available filter the K&N is a better choice. Hands down the best choice is the Amsoil EaO series.

In order of preference:

1. Amsoil EaO32
2. K&N
3. Wix

My car is lowered using stock bolts and I've never seen any damage to the welded-on nut.
