Default In CA: shorty headers vs. LT's .::SOUND::.

Does anyone really notice a difference in sound between LT's and C.A.R.B. legal shorty headers?

volume?

I've asked this question before and no one answered. I guess no one knows.

Ive had shorties on my LS1..I think the sound diff would be minimal...I think more depends on whats after the headers

Well, with what you had after the shorties, what kind of difference did you hear? Or, did you change the shorties AND the catbacks at the same time?

I had the b&b's before I got ARH longtubes with hi flows.......I would best describe the difference as negligible soundwise. Perhaps just a bit of a meaner sound not necessarily any more volume.

So, is it safe to say that you think that while shorties changed your tone, the volume did not change as much whereas if the OP and I were to go LTs instead of shorties we would notice a BIG difference in volume?

I'm just trying to decide if I should go with smog legal shorties or if it's a major difference get LT's and just deal with SMOG checks as they come.

No. I had the Corsa Indy system on with both...the main thing I hear with the shorties or longtubes is a meaner, deeper, exhaust note. Maybe a little more volume but not much. Keep in mind that the Corsa system is "seasoning" at the same time which adds to the difference in sound over time.

Having both, I'd have to say no major difference. I can attribute and honest 10 rwhp to the B&B shorties (can't attest to any other brand of shorties)

Well deeper and meaner are important since we don't want to end up sounding like little Mustang 289's with headers. Just hoping that if I do go with LT's finding a SMOG place that will pass my visual inspection won't care if my cats are somewhere near my rear wheels

Like you, I am concerned with smog. It is getting stricter and stricter every year. And, maybe I can find someone lenient this time around, but what about after that, when the system has been on the car awhile, and harder to remove, if I even WANT to swap them out for a smog! And, I think the law now states that a seller can be held responsible even if the car is sold to someone else.

As far as sound is concerned, my Corsa Indys already made my car sound like a foreign car, instead of a muscle car, so tone to me isn't that much of an issue. I'm more concerned about how LOUD it will get with shorties vs. LTs and whether or not I'd end up with drone.

FWIW, I now have no drone, and I think the Corsa Indy's are quite quiet.

So, MRM1149, you said that shorties and LTs don't seem to have much difference in volume? Did I understand that correctly? Since we have the same catback, did you pick up any drone? And, also, from what I hear, shorties are plug'n'play, and don't require ANY other modifications, unlike LT's which might require relocation of items, and possibly some custom welding and such. Did you find that to be true?

Yes to not much difference in volume. Still no drone at all, quite mean sounding at WOT. The American Racing Headers required no relocation of anything although I did have the rear O2 sensors tuned out. Honestly the B&B shorties are just fine.......the only reason I did the ARH is because I could.

LT's, so yea, SMOG is a headache I'll just have to deal with. I'll just find a SMOG shop in a smaller city that doesn't have any C5's running around. Maybe they just won't know where the cat's should be anyways.

Most performance and tune shops know where to take your car for the SMOG friendly shops.

My LG Pro LT made my Ti exhaust sound deeper and scream at WOT.
My Pacesetters shorty headers or my Bassani headers didn't do that.
Good luck
